Donald Trump op-ed: My vision for a Culture of Life
Washington Examiner ^ | January 23, 2016 | Donald Trump

Posted on 01/23/2016 8:47:03 AM PST by ironman

Let me be clear - I am pro-life. I support that position with exceptions allowed for rape, incest or the life of the mother being at risk. I did not always hold this position, but I had a significant personal experience that brought the precious gift of life into perspective for me. My story is well documented, so I will not retell it here. However, what I will do with the remaining space is express my feelings about life, and the culture of life, as we just marked the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

I build things. There is a process involved in building things.......The rules for putting structures together are as strict as are the rules of physics. These rules have stood the test of time and have become the path to putting together structures that endure and are beautiful. America, when it is at its best, follows a set of rules that have worked since our Founding. One of those rules is that we, as Americans, revere life and have done so since our Founders made it the first, and most important, of our "unalienable" rights.

Over time, our culture of life in this country has started sliding toward a culture of death. Perhaps the most significant piece of evidence to support this assertion is that since Roe v. Wade was decided by the Supreme Count 43 years ago, over 50 million Americans never had the chance to enjoy the opportunities offered by this country. They never had the chance to become doctors, musicians, farmers, teachers, husbands, fathers, sons or daughters. They never had the chance to enrich the culture of this nation or to bring their skills, lives, loves or passions into the fabric of this country. They are missing, and they are missed.

I agree that it looks like political convenience.

I’ve been pro-life for decades and my position is a matter of principle.

My analogy, yes it exists but it exists in such a way now that its not conducive to the general welfare or to the right to life of the unborn child.

We must rectify that situation to change the public attitude about abortion and bring it on a course to ultimate extinction.

All this without touching a woman’s autonomy over her body.

If it’s shown that Trump not only wrote this, but wrote this from his heart, would you believe him?

Rhetorical question, as most readers here on FR know the answer

Most Americans believe abortion (not right in principle) is a necessary evil in very rare circumstances.

Most Americans believe that abortion is icky, but they are not ipso facto pro-life. They think, as I think Ellen Goodman once put it, that abortion should only be available in four instances: rape, incest, the life of the mother, and when I need one.

Short of a revolutionary overthrow of the government, the only way to recriminalize abortion is to put pro-life Justices on the Supreme Court. I trust Cruz to do this more than I trust Trump, but in reality I trust neither, because the only truly pro-life SCOTUS candidates would be people who could never get the consent of the Senate (Mark Levin, Jay Sekulow, etc.).

“Tell that to his eminent domain victims.”

Eminent domain has no “victims.” They leave with just compensation. The only real victims of ED were the Indians and Trump had nothing to do with that.

So I am getting some of the nastiest emails I have ever received on FR. Guess I am flying over the target of the science mafia.

Dissent is Verboten!! God is a four letter word!

Speaking of which, how did that evolution thing work in Nazi Germany and evolving a super race? Now there is a good example of science being wrong.

Found this interesting article from early last year when Trump first announced...

“I wonder who wrote this for him. Let me know when Trump actually SPEAKS all these things in this way from out of his mouth.”

Yes, the print version is no good. We need the audio adaptation. /s

After it all comes out of his mouth, people will demand that he act it out in performance art. Keep moving those goal posts.

With Trump you get 60-75% of what you want in a candidate, without him you get 100% of a Demoncrat. Make your choice.

Right now we have abortion on demand at any time during a womans' pregnancy. What Turmp is proposing would be a huge step in the right direction. Sadly the Rats in the Senate would never let this see the light of day.

Nice product by whomever Trump’s staff paid to write it. It will accurately reflect the Donald’s views until after he is elected -— at which time his standard pro-choice beliefs will reassert themselves.

” - this is a very good editorial in support of life by Trump. - “

YES, this is the typical Left wing politician’s answer

If you are happy with it, vote Trump Or Hilary or any RINO - they all have this as their standard boiler plate BS “YES for Abortion”

“I agree that it looks like political convenience.”

Prolife is not the trendy, popular position. I thought he was some sort of populist with no positions of his own.

It’s good so it sounds like it was written by Ted Cruz.

I hate to be the one that breaks it to you but that is the position of the majority of Americans who are pro life. Many Republican candidates hold this position on abortion. You may disagree with that position but just know that you are in the minority.

I wonder how many children were victims of abortion in third world countries due to his (recent) six-figure support of the Clinton family syndicate and their Global Initiative?

[However, getting angry because Trump supports this isn’t going to help our cause.]

How many decades will Christians turn a blind eye to truth to justify in the womb? GOD says, “Thou shalt not kill.” Murdering a baby in the womb goes against GOD’S command. GOD does not have exceptions for rape, incest, or the risk of life of the mother.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above. (James 1:17) Life is precious. It is a gift from GOD, no matter if a person lives for a moment or for a hundred years or more.

How many of the 55 million unborn babies who have been aborted across the county fall into the so-called category of saving the life of a mother?

Until Christians open their eyes to the truth about abortion, our nation will continue to decline until it is no more.

Luke 16:15
HE said to them, You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but GOD knows your hearts.

GOD is the final judge. Following HIS commandments will make ‘America Great Again.’
