CATAWBA, N.C. (WBTV) - A good Samaritan, who stopped to help a driver who spun out on ice, was fatally shot by the driver in Catawba County.

According to the Catawba County Sheriff, a driver spun out on ice along Mathis Church Road Friday night. Neighbors who overheard the wreck, went out to check on the incident.

The driver of a truck came up on the incident and pulled over the help the driver, later identified as 27-year-old Marvin Jacob Lee, of Claremont.

According to the sheriff, Lee was acting odd and belligerent. The neighbors and good Samaritan were talking about calling police when Lee apparently overheard them, jumped out of the car and shot the good Samaritan.

When the good Samaritan fell to the ground, Lee fired several more shots. According to the Sheriff, the good Samaritan died from the injuries.

When deputies arrived at the scene, Lee reportedly refused to get out of the car.

An armored car was called to the scene and deputies had to approach the vehicle with shields before Lee would get out of the car.

When he was taken into custody, the sheriff says Lee still had the pistol on him.

Lee was arrested and charged with murder. The name of the good Samaritan has not been released.

A fair trial, and an early noose. Spare the taxpayers the cost of a long drawn out incarceration.

“... Lee was acting odd and belligerent...”

This is when you leave. Call the authorities from a safe distance.

It’s a crying shame the police didn’t dispatch him right there. Too bad he didn’t draw on the officers.

They say that drugs are a victimless crime. Really?

I know that this is not the full story, but still I weep for the real victim, the hero who tried to help someone in need! Prayers for him and his family and friends.

What a tragic event. This criminal should never again see the light of day.

This won’t be popular, but sometimes guns are more trouble than they’re worth.

Too bad Deputy Marshal Raylan Givins wasn’t around.

Yeah, the darn thing just jumped up all by it self and shot the good Samaritan.

Good thing he had the tire iron properly constrained.

I had to use one to defend my place against 2 drunks. I got arrested and deferred adjudication for 10 years. It would’ve been better if I called the cops than to go outside and hold them off with a gun.

Nobody got hurt except me. I know what I’m talking about.

People that feel that way are defenseless when an aggressor starts shooting at them.

How do you defer adjudication?

You plea guilty to the mercy of the court and you’re not convicted unless you screw up your probation period.

I could’ve gone to trial, but faced 8 years in prison, so I took the safer way. The gestapo and the system are rigged. This is in Texas too, btw. Don’t use a gun, even on your own property, to defend yourself unless you plan on wishing for death instead.

I say this with all due respect, but is hero the proper word. The guy pulled over to help the guy, which is great, but we cheapen the word hero, in my opinion by throwing it around so loosely.
I have great sorrow for the good samaritan and his loved ones.

The gestapo and the system are rigged.

That's the problem, not the gun.

I don't know the circumstances of what happened to you but I thought Texas has a Castle Doctrine law and use of a weapon to defend your home even outside was within the law.

If you were facing 8 years, what was the charge?

Were you charged with ADW?
