He’s talking about “protect[ing] Christianity” so neither seem to fit. Quoting the First Amendment would be a better choice since that’s the operative document except it doesn’t speak of protecting a religion only the free exercise of it.
Others have drawn the tie between the name of the university and the word “liberty” in some translations of the verse. Seems forced because he’s speaking to “religious people.”.
When Donald Trump pretends to be a devout Christian, he is insulting our intelligence.
When Ted Cruz uses our faith to troll for votes on Twitter, he is insulting our religion.

Actually, I have taught Bible studies and when looking at the letters from John I often referred to “One John” or “Three John”.

Ted has that agenda as well. He just has it planned out better and he will actually do it. He proved when he ran for Senate that he would keep the promises he made to get elected and he did.
I liked Trump but I’ve lost my faith in him.
Interestingly, this hasn’t bothered Jerry Falwell Jr. who has warmly praised Trump many times.
I have indeed misquoted scripture, but I asked for forgiveness, that is something that St. Donald refuses to do. Oh and forgiveness is kinda the heart of the gospel. I will worship Christ, when you stop worshiping Trump, I invite to join me!
God forbid Trump expresses what he read in his own way and not in the “pure” fashion of The Perfects who are holier-than-thou without sin waiting to find any fault!

Was Reagan all that devout? I think he was a believer, but I think he was more about the traditional values of Judeo-Christian society.
