There shouldn’t be any Muslims in Wisconsin.

Agreed! Wisconsin should only belong to the Menominee, Chippewa, Winnebago and Potawatami. The workers ought to be entitled to use the sweatlodge, as appropriate.

I don’t think they’re allowed to fire people just for being Muslim.

In the absence of an employment contract, which is a binding legal document, in states such as Florida, an employer can fire an employee for any reason, or for no reason.

I suppose it would be wise to avoid firing someone for some discriminatory reason, but since an employee can be fired for no reason, I guess that situation is adequately handled simply by the employer not stating a politically incorrect reason, e.g. "we no longer require your services".

In Florida, there is also a "right to work" without being forced into union membership, but there is no "right to keep your job" in the absence of a formal contract.

It's called "freedom"...

Private company, they can do what they want to including incur the legal liability this policy may entail. No public company would dare take such a position as the shareholder lawsuits could go for decades, and management would be too risk-averse to put their phoney-baloney jobs at risk.

They’re not firing them. They’re saying they can no longer have extra break time to pray. Some have chosen to stay on those terms, some have not.

Muslims need to learn the Protestant Work Ethic.

I worked and lived in the Middle East and Indonesia for more than ten years. Both Muslim regions.

Muslims are meant to pray five times a day. How they make this prayer is a personal issue. However there is no hard and fast rule that they have to stop work and the ones that claim this to be so are only trying to game the system.

They can conduct small personal prayers while they are working. The only reason they get away with having prayer breaks in the US and other western countries is because of the current lame preoccupation with appeasing minorities.

It infuriates me to see western companies falling for this scam and I commend the mower company for waking up to it. Fire their arses.

The problem is that generally it takes 5 minutes to get to the prayer room to pray 5 minutes which often may mean 5 to 10 minutes, then another 5 minutes to get back to the production line and another 5 minutes to get “set” so you are back in production. Couple that with the legally enforced two 15 minute unpaid breaks per shift and the mandatory 30 minute lunch break and then you begin to see the problem! It turns into an hour of additional time lost per Muzzie per shift just to accommodate their two per shift 5 minute prayer breaks.

“... but the rest have either chosen to leave or are planning to.”

Doesn’t sound like ANYONE is being fired.

I was thinking the same...I SERIOUSLY DOUBT it’s just 5 minutes of lost time. I also wonder who calls for the breaks - perhaps some Imam starts chanting and then presses the Emergency Stop button on the line - if so, then that causes safety hazards to all employees? I don’t know, but if the rule applies to all religions, then no one is being fired because of it.

Hopefully Ariens sticks to their guns. Cargill kinda caved to the 150 muzzies they fired by allowing them to reapply for their jobs after 30 days instead of the usual 6 months.

The problem is one of maintaining ptoduction rate. On a high volume assembly line labor is balanced and break times are proscribed. There is no way to operate if even a few want breaks other than at allowed times. They are choosing not to work within those constraints.

Ariens will fire Muslim employees who are asking for 2 extra breaks per day to pray — thus interrupting prduction line. 53 workers affected.

FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.

“Make the Infidels bend to Allah’s will...”

Time for all of it to stop! This is, as you suggest, mearely another veiled attempt to change America. If they are citizens, they need to go back and re-read the oath that they took.
