This entire proposal is just nonsense. It is a dream come true for most families if a son or daughter wins a college scholarship and saves the family part or all of the cost of a college education.
But some people want to look at this issue as if every college football player is a future pro and is helping to make their school millions. Nobody ever explains what is to happen with the big majority of schools that lose money on football and all other sports.
pay them the same amount that Olympic, WORLD CLASS athletes make.

Enough money where enough people say “I’m not getting enough of a cut of that money”.
I would cite as a Precedent, what happened in English soccer when the Premier League was created and broke away from the FA.

Some very relevant information in a short article. All those who want to pay college athletes need to open their checkbooks and chip in.
In view of the below, I don't see how anyone thinks colleges should pay any athlete beyond the scholarship benefits.
Median revenues generated by athletic departments increased by 3.2 percent from 2012 to 2013, while expenses went up 10.6 percent;
Of the 20 schools that made money, the median profit was $8.4 million;
Of the 103 schools that lost money, the median deficit was $14.9 million;
The highest total revenues generated by an athletic department was $169.7 million;
The highest total expenses by an athletic department was $146.8 million.
What happens to rookie football players who get injured so badly that they can never play professional ball again?
A college degree is a nice thing to fall back on. In order to get it, one had to study in a lot of areas, thus giving you the ability to write properly, to know how to do research, often to be able to present a paper/speech in a competent manner, and basically HOW TO THINK.
Sports are great teachers too, but you need something else to do with your life if you are unable to play sports as your first choice (as in “You’re cut”).
They need to separate inter-collegiate sports from college and make them self funding minor league organizations purchasing name rights from local colleges. Then they could draw salaries, expenses, etc. as long as they were self supporting.
Without college football, the NFL would never know about your “million dollar arm”.
Without college football, these players would have neither the knowledge nor the skills to be worth their exorbitant signing bonuses.
Why not have the colleges pay their players at, say $30/hr but the players pay their tuition, books & fees and other expenses?
Or the college pay for tuition, books, fees, room & board against 10% of the players earning for the five years after graduation?
Willing buyer, willing seller?
This whole “pay the athletes” movement is being pushed by ‘community organizers’, ‘social justice warriors’, salivating ‘agents’ and ‘journalists’ looking for easy stories.
Folks wanting to be airline pilots spend a ton of money getting their ratings. Then they get hired by regional airlines for a pittance while they build enough flight time to get the ATP rating needed to qualify for the major airlines. These “poor, exploited” football players have none of those worries or debts.
ESPN paid $7.3 billion for the college playoffs in 2012. They have more money than they let on. Divide that into 124 is $60 million a team. The numbers are obviously cooked. Why?

So...I don't know what you are speaking about.
Anyway....I know people that say other people shouldn't make their $100k a year. No matter that they earned it.
I know folks that think making $200k a year is way too much.
I use to know some people that thought $50k a year...was rich!
Not going to say what I make a year....because I never tell anyone. Even my kids.
My point is.....if I can make $500k or $2Mil a year....I made it. I did the work.

Major colleges have athletic departments expenses up to and even more than $100 million per year. It’s expensive to have football and all the other sports that mostly lose money. Modern facilities are very expensive to build and maintain.
People want a cut of my money??? And they deserve this how????

The whole thing is a sham to begin with. Start recruiting the millions of great record breaking white high school athletes who are snubbed time and time again in favor of average black players. The system is blatently bigoted against whites. Look at the Heisman...the best player by far...Christian McCaffrey was snubbed because he plays a “black” position. Sickening.
I don't know if the pros have a restriction (age) clause that forces young adults to wait, but nobody is forcing them to go to college. They get a good training in college. It works both ways.
College football “exploited” white players before they “exploited” black players. They are equal opportunity oppressive exploiters.
College football will be over if they go “professional.” Which is why leftists are pushing dummy football players to “demand” pay.
They don’t appear to pay the white athletes.

McCaffrey, best player? In your opinion. Personally, the two best players were Henry and Watson. Stanford played weak defenses in the Pac-12.
