In the 80s I shot a lot of NRA competitions and at some matches they would give out NRA points instead of trophies or ammo or whatever. I had quite a pile of them and no need for a coffee cup or cap so I started buying the books you listed as they were reprinted. I think I have every one you mentioned plus quite a few more, mainly old 1800s books by African hunters and explorers.
When Hollywood made The Ghost and the Darkness, I looked forward to seeing Patterson’s adventure on film. Wrong. They had to throw in an imaginary American and left out some of the most exciting events that actually did happen in real life.

The good news you saw them, it’s the ones you don’t see I worry about. Stealthy animals.
I have been told that a adult sized person can fight off a cougar. You will end up with a couple hundred stitches.
Maybe, if they’re serious about you they attack from the rear gripping the neck/throat. You’ll never know what hit you.
