Ted Cruz on Trump: I'll never have 'a plane with my name on it'
CNN ^ | 1/9/16 | Theodore Schliefer

Posted on 01/08/2016 12:06:41 PM PST by VinL

Under assault from Donald Trump, Ted Cruz offered something of a thinly veiled contrast Friday....

Cruz, in the middle of an intense 28-county bus tour, has been arguing that he is out working the GOP field on the ground as they rely on "slick Hollywood TV ads."

Asked by reporters if he had much faith in the ground game of a Trump, Cruz mocked his opulence.

"I feel confident that I'm never going to have a plane with my name on it," he said at a church. "How do you run a grassroots campaign? It's very time intensive. It's labor intensive. You don't do it sitting back in the easy chair. You don't do it from a TV studio in Manhattan."

Cruz has consistently poked fun at Trump's wealth, telling a late night host that he would like Trump to write his campaign a large check and joking in a GOP debate that the New York builder should personally pay for a wall on the Mexico border.

However, the jokes at Trump's expense come after the billionaire businessman's has spent significant airtime ribbing Cruz over his Canadian birthplace and whether it jeopardizes his eligibility to be president. Constitutional scholars have said Cruz's citizenship will not be an issue.

RE”Cruz couldn’t afford a plane.”

While I’m sure Cruz is eligible to run, let me guess that you think that because his mother, a US citizen, was on his Canadian Birth Certificate, that automatically makes him a US citizen. I take that you also think that the Dems weren’t going to challenge Cruz until Trump said something.

Let’s start with the first. For Cruz to be a NBC, his mother a US Citizen had to submit a CRBA to the US Embassy/Consulate to notify them of the birth of a US Citizen Abroad. Failure to file in a timely manner or not meeting standards for filing can cause issues with obtaining full rights and benefits of US citizenship. The status of his mother at the time and these documents are what is in question and are sealed. Ted Cruz has the sole responsibility to release these and thus end any questions of eligibility.

Second, lawsuits were filed against Cruz, Rubio, and Jindal (who isn’t in the race anymore) in several states on questions of eligibility in an attempt to prevent them from being on the ballot. They didn’t just file them yesterday, would be stupid to file against Jindal since he isn’t in the race.

Thirdly, Trump played the media and Dems right into giving away a strategic card on Cruz. By getting this out in the open and taking care of it now, the GOPe/Dems can’t possibly use it later to hinder Cruz (if he gets the nomination). If you think that they weren’t going to do so, you are only fooling yourself.

Open your eyes. Cruz knows that this isn’t detrimental and isn’t some ferocious attack by Trump. If this was a backstab by Trump and Cruz’s counter was the playful jab about his name never being on a plane. I would lose all respect for the man.

Yes, because only the few elite super-rich should be allowed to run for president!

I have had plenty of planes with my name on them. Allow me to introduce myself - Mr. American.

Because You DIDN'T BUILD THAT Teddy? Leave the Big Planes to the Big Boys

Just like a sponge consumer of MSM, to see it that way.

Gasshog, America has several real estate moguls more successful than Donald Trump by a long shot. One of them is comparable to Trump in birth circumstances, but a little older, and he is worth four times more than Trump. That means he is the really Big Boy among the biggest of big-boys in Trump's game.

Yet most Americans don't know his name, and fewer would know his face. He doesn't fly around in planes announcing himself to the world. Why doesn't he need a "personal brand" and fame to succeed? Maybe The Donald would be four times wealthier if he wasn't such a show-off? Who knows.

Try this on. I know it is twisted but here goes. Trump and Cruz are really working together. The Cruz citizenship thing was bubbling up no matter what Trump said as Cruz rose in the polls. Trump's style is to get problems out in the open and deal with them. Already some noted scholars have weighed in on Cruz's citizenship issue. Before the Iowa cauci it will be old news. Is this just their way of clearing the deck of this issue?

thought real conservatives and Christians would never indulge in class envy ...

Class envy? More like taste envy.

Money cannot buy taste.

Trump uses his plane as a business tool. Trump can work, eat, sleep and hold meeting from his plane

So can and do thousands of other successful businessmen.

They are just a lot more reserved and humble. They don't feel the need to "announce their presence with authority," to steal one of Tim Robbins' best lines.

Living and working as I do crossing paths with many very wealthy people, it is an absolute TRUTH that the most ostentatious of them are middle easterners regardless of religion. Show and display are very, very important to them; the more money, the more blatant the display. It is a cultural thing, many of them are very nice, truly hospitable people, I speak first-hand.

Trump's need to announce his financial prosperity to the world reminds me of them.

Cruz has never worked in private sector. He has been living off government checks. He can not afford a decent sized airplane and professional pilots to fly them.

Cruz has never run a business, not even a hot dog stand at profit. He has been living off the taxpayers money all his life. That explains why he can't even afford a decent suit.

Re:”Cruz is jealous of Trump’s success”

Tell us about those “successful” bankruptcies
I would imagine those creditors he screwed over would likely feel something other than jealousy at him for driving his ventures into the ground and sticking them with the bill.

Look at the wall behind those two men in that picture.

Electing Trump to the White House is monumentally stupid.

We have been electing career politicians for decades.
Frankly, I do not like the results. I must be stupid, because it has taken me decades to finally realize, that career politicians give such promising speeches before election, and then after election is over, they go back to serving their rich donor class by pushing the cheap labor express.

Will president Trump prove to be the Panacea? No one can be sure. But I am sick of 30 million illegals given a path to legal status. They must be deported first. All of them. Then may be some can come back LEGALLY. If we begin ignoring laws, where do we draw the line.

I am also sick of losing on foreign trade. We are never going to get those middle class jobs back with Trillion dollar yearly trade deficits. On top of that, our corporations, our mines, our buildings, and other tangible assets are increasingly owned by foreigners. My $275,000 house was sold 5 years ago to a Chinese couple who paid in cash!

I see no career politician capable of changing the direction of country. They all keep flip-flopping on issues based on the wind direction.

May be Trump has enough money already, and will not do things just to please his rich donors. May be he is at an age where intelligent people seek legacy more than money. May be he has strong enough personality to attract voters to his agenda.

In 9 short weeks we will know the answer. And soon after that is Super Tuesday.

Yeah, Crusz could actually go get a real job instead of working for the government. He is actually smart enough to work to get his own airplane.

Poor baby.
