Rep. Joel Kleefisch fined for shooting two turkeys with one shot

Madison - Rep. Joel Kleefisch (R-Oconomowoc) said he's been cited for killing two turkeys with one shot.

Kleefisch said Monday he was hunting Sunday in Waukesha County when he killed the tom as well as a nearby jake with pellets from the same shot.

He said he didn't mean to shoot the jake but called a warden because he lacked a tag for the second bird. He was told he would be cited since he was warned several years ago about being sure of his target when he dropped three geese with one shot.

Kleefisch said the citation is in the mail and he expects to be fined anywhere from $200 to $300.

A state Department of Natural Resources spokesman didn't immediately return an email seeking comment.

SSS situation. (Shoot, shovel, shut up) . As a public official, he should be commended for ‘fessing up and taking whatever medicine is administered.

Policemen are subject to less punishment for negligent mortal discharge.

The big take away that I can see is that he reported himself, lol.

Incredible. PETA is a sick bunch through and through.

Related: I have read that a falcon hits such velocity as it dives down (from a skyscraper) to attack a pigeon, it knocks the pigeon’s feathers off on impact.

Wonder which is faster: a pro baseball fastball, or a diving falcon.

I hope you turned yourself in heh.

We can’t control it all, but apparently we have some ace shots with shotguns on this site.

Diving Falcons can go WELL over 150 in a dive IIRC. Theres lots of youtube vids on the feather explosions.

Closest I ever got to one was off-roading in AZ. It was sitting on a rock about 10ish feet up over the trail. I drove by in a VW powered and LOUD buggy. It just stared at me like dinner. No fear in those birds at all.

He should have held his shot. Turning himself in the DNR had to cite him. A $200 fine, hardly newsworthy

Why the hell would anyone pay them or even acknowledge them? It only encourages them to keep going.

Wiki...

389 km/h
The peregrine is renowned for its speed, reaching over 322 km/h (200 mph) during its characteristic hunting stoop (high speed dive), making it the fastest member of the animal kingdom. According to a National Geographic TV programme, the highest measured speed of a peregrine falcon is 389 km/h (242 mph).

Good story! There is nothing in the world like the stare of a bird of prey. Very amazing creatures.

Same reason people elect rinos. They think it’s an easier way out of an issue than standing their ground. But it never is.

Ask someone whose been through military SERE training who calls the shots and how over what they can do in the field to eat.

I was talking to another freeper about a year back and told him that story. He was a bird dude of some type. Said that eying me for dinner was exactly what tweety had on his mind.

Glad he thought better of it. I wouldn’t want to mess with that.

We actually stopped briefly to watch it Never blinked. Note I said BRIEFLY ;)

Haha Norm, I replied to him too, I knew they could hit 200 mph, but I wanted to quickly read again, then I just read the exact same thing you just excerpted heh.

Good googly moogly. I had no idea they were THAT fast. I also learned a new phrase: hunting stoop. I can’t see that it will be much use, though, bc mostly only bird fanciers will know what it means.

I remember they were fast but I didn’t remember THAT fast. But they are.

Ever see the pick posted here on the airplane threads of a profile of the B2 and a Falcon in flight?

SAME profile.

I can believe it! Did you see the post that said a peregrine was clocked at close to 250 mph?

Ya, I saw it, I was fact checking and came across it, that’s even faster than I realized heh.

The peregrine falcon is the provincial bird of British Columbia.
