Seattle mom told to cover up while breastfeeding at U-Village restaurant (liberal entitlement)

SEATTLE - The general manager at a restaurant at Seattle's University Village is apologizing to a mother after one of its employees told a breastfeeding mother to cover up.

"There shouldn't be a stigma about breastfeeding," mother Lauren Hernandez said.

Hernandez was having lunch at Piatti Sunday afternoon.

She was with her 9-month-old son, Bob, who started getting fussy.

"While I was nursing him, the hostess came up to me and told me to cover up because people had complained," Hernandez said. "And I told her 'I think it's illegal for you to tell me to cover up' and she said 'No, we just had training on it.'"

If you wear a well-designed nursing top, nothing has to show.

I used to practice with my baby boy in front of a mirror to make sure I could do it unobtrusively. I nursed in church (side back aisle pew), in restaurants (corner booth) and once, egad, on a speakers' platform, and I assure you nobody noticed.

If she was not adequately covered, it was her fault and she needs to apologize sincerely and learn better nursing etiquette.

If she was covered and somebody objected in principle to feeding babies anywhere but in purdah, then I suggest the objector move to Qatar.

Cover up is the right thing to do when the need to breastfeed in public arises. There is an agenda, in this case, that is an “in your face” attitude that screams “LIBERAL!”

I have yet to witness any nursing child where a breast is fully exposed. Private does not have to mean hiding at home or going to a filthy public bathroom to nurse. Nursing is a way of feeding an infant. It is acceptable to feed babies in public provided the baby is not fussing to the point she disturbs others.

Breastfeeding is not ruining the morals of this nation.

The word “illegal” gets thrown around a lot nowadays, with morons like this lady using it without any idea what it means. I wonder if she decides to change her son’s diapers in the restaurant - illegal or not? And why?

Breastfeeding is natural but, it shouldn’t be a spectator event. Women who do this are seeking attention about how good their mothering skills are...hey, look at me!!

These days one can purchase, or make, a simple rectangle of cloth with a strap that goes around the neck and adjusts with velcro. Between where the strap attaches, there is a piece of flexible plastic boning that holds the fabric away from the mother’s chest so she can look down at the nursing baby. It’s called either a ‘nursing cover’ or a ‘hooters hider’. One can be made in an afternoon, or purchased online, although some are as high as $40!
They make a terrific shower gift, and eliminate virtually all problems associated with nursing away from home.
I was once in a shop where the owner has her toddler daughter with her. Knowing full well my husband was in the shop too, she whipped out a breast and nursed the child in front of him. Yes, it was very deliberate, the child wasn’t even fussy. She lost a sale.
I nursed four babies and not once in front of my mother-in-law, even.

I would hope she would call the management and complain that someone was making threatening gestures and ask that 911 be called. Anyone who harassed a nursing mother in that manner would deserve to be hauled out on their butts.
