I see that allowing gays in the military was a fine help. Our kedics will be busy rebuilding a$$ holes instead of war wounded.

Odd. There was an 8-month backlog when I joined UNDER RONALD REAGAN. Yep...I had to wait to get in because so many had volunteered.
So no, the difficulty didn’t date to 1973.
There wasn’t a problem in 2003, either. And I was deployed to Afghanistan in 2007, and didn’t see the problems the author claims he saw a year later.
But last year, I had a chance to talk informally with a number of young enlisted guys - and there were HUGE moral problems, all of which were rooted in BAD LEADERSHIP, from the top down to the field grade officers! Both my son and SIL got out, saying they hadn’t served under any officers who could tell the truth.
As a retired O-5 whose very honest O-6 dad died in Vietnam...that hurt to hear. But the rot starts at the top.
Given the antagonism towards Christians and stripping the chaplains of their authority, I foresee a time, maybe in the near future, when Christian are going to stop volunteering.
To elucidate on my prior post, the reason the chaplain service was established in the military in the first place was to be the “conscience of the commander.” Christians were concerned about serving in the military unless there was a Christian influence. Otherwise, the military could end up used for things against God’s commands (e.g., Nazis, war crimes, etc.) So the chaplain historically had the responsibility to tell the commanding officer if the chaplain thought the commander was doing something wrong, and the further responsibility to take that up the chain of command if not adequately addressed by the CO.
Of course, that has now all been taken away that the CO has to responsible to the gay and lesbian diversity political officer instead.

Yup. There are unstable people in the military who should not be there.
But that’s not why you’re short every time a unit deploys, dear leader.
You’re short because the majority of the females in a unit try to get pregnant right before a deployment. (I’ve seen it happen every freaking TIME. I listen to the women brag about it and the ones who don’t get knocked up lamenting that they tried. One of my husband’s units lost 10 PERCENT of their force to pregnancy right before they pulled out. The Pentagon refused to replace these soldiers because, technically, they were still part of the unit.)
But you guys keep her on the books so the unit can’t send a suitable replacement for the entire deployment.
You’re also short because we’re switching from a war-footing to a peace time-footing and the SMA would rather have a mentally unstable soldier than one with a tattoo of a hula girl on his arm.
And STOP LOSS isn’t for the average Joe. Stop loss is for experienced, older troops who are necessary for specialized fields. (I know. I personally am related to two men who were stop lossed and two who were recalled to duty after being out for years.)

That’s not due to a shortage of volunteers. That’s a deliberate act by our political ‘leaders’ in DC and you, dear writer, KNOW THAT.

I fully agree, which begs the question, WHY DID THE DOD AND PENTAGON *JUST* DISMISS A TON OF THEIR EXPERIENCED OFFICERS AND SENIOR NCOs??
TONS of pink slips were delivered this fall. Why? “To make room.”
This idiot is pointing the finger of blame at US citizens instead of the politicians who are actually causing all of the problems.
I agree that way too many of our young people are not fit to fight and that we do need a national program to train them for the potential of war.
But, instead, we’re teaching our kids to fear guns and that ‘violence is never the answer’. We’re eliminating PE from our school systems so that we can train kids to take a test. No wonder they don’t want to join.
We don’t trust a 18 year old senior with a freaking pocket knife. Why would he feel capable of handling a gun?
Perhaps we could trade paying off student loans for service in the military - a reverse GI Bill. Afterall, most of the kids aren’t doing anything anyway in Obama’s recession they cannot get jobs.

Sons and daughters of conservative Americans comprise the largest percentage of military members and many are telling their sons and daughters not to join this fag-friendly military where Obama has forced PC garbage down their throats, which now includes women in combat.
*Shove or hit some scum child rapist who is a member of another country’s forces and get drummed out of the US military for your trouble.

I recently ran across a posted Yiddish reference to “schmoe” while comparing “putz” to “schmuck”...
The author wrote that a “Schmoe” or Schmo” was also a little man who enjoyed wrestling with large women to get his sexual gratification, but did not actually engage in intercourse...
