F-15s deployed in Turkey return to Lakenheath

STUTTGART, Germany — Twelve U.S. Air Force F-15s sent to Incirlik Air Base in November to protect Turkish airspace and conduct strikes against Islamic State targets in Syria and Iraq are being redeployed to their home base in the United Kingdom, European Command said.

On Wednesday, the warplanes began their return to RAF Lakenheath, having completed what was designed to be a temporary deployment, EUCOM stated.

“This deployment served not only as an immediate response to a request from an ally, but as an exercise in our ability to deploy aircraft and airmen on short notice to Turkey, if needed,” said Navy Capt. Danny Hernandez, EUCOM spokesman.

Six F-15E Strike Eagles were dispatched to Incirlik on Nov. 12 to support coalition efforts against the Islamic State as part of Operation Inherent Resolve. In addition, six F-15C tactical fighters helped patrol Turkish airspace amid concerns about recent airspace violations by Russian jets.

Air Force A-10s and a collection of drones continue to operate out of the airbase along with a growing number of coalition aircraft from Turkey, Qatar and Germany.

Incirlik’s location just 100 miles from the Syrian border allows pilots to loiter longer over the battlefields than if they have to transit from bases located in the Persian Gulf.

The deployment of F-15Cs offered an opportunity for the U.S. and Turkey to establish operational parameters for conducting such border patrol missions. On Friday, Ankara and Washington reached a formal agreement on that framework, Hernandez said.

“Reaching that agreement is a significant step to flying the missions,” Hernandez said. “You need to have the procedures in place.”

I guess since the Russians are making real attacks instead of phony ones, they were not needed.

I am not sure what that is but for the most part I think it was for show.

I was astounded when I read about them dropping leaflets on ISIS.

The truth:

This border section, is a 98 kilometer strip that lays between two Kurdish regions, Afrin and Jarabulus.

Jarabulus is on the banks of Euphrates river close to the border of Turkey in Syria.

The Kurds got rid of ISIS and AQ on the rest of the borders of Iraq and Syria with Turkey.

This small section is the only remaining border crossing that ISIS and AQ still hold, and Turkey is able to provide logistics, weaponry and allow ISIS and AQ to receive fresh militants and also have the wounded ones transferred to Turkey for medical treatment.

What Turkey wants is to NOT LET the Kurds clean up ISIS and AQ from this border strip, so Turkey can still support ISIS and AQ.

The military operation in discussion is not for cleaning ISIS and AQ, it’s actually for securing them from any harm and guaranteeing that Turkey can still support ISIS and AQ.

It’s not hard to understand that Turkey = ISIS

"Who comes up with these creepy, skin crawling operation names?"

Last I read, US military operations were computer generated. But with some human input. I thought a code name for an operation in 1986 was cool. It was called operation 'El Dorado Canyon,' the United States bombing of Libya. How Military Operations Get Their Code Names
