Russia has about 146 million people (10% muslim), Turkey has about 78 million.
Russia’s GDP is about $1.8 trillion in 2014 ($6,850/person), but heavily dependent on oil and gas prices, and subject to sanctions over its Ukraine invasion. It has been shrinking year over year.
Turkey’s GDP is about $800 billion ($10K/person) and broadly diversified with an above average growth rate.
A total of 90 B61 nuclear bombs are hosted at the Incirlik Air Base, 40 of which are allocated for use by the Turkish Air Force in case of a nuclear conflict, but their use requires the approval of NATO.
Turkey would be a bigger battle for Russia than the Ukraine, even if it did not have NATO behind it.
If you’re talking about European Russia, maybe 146 million but I think it’s a lot more. If Russian did decide to take out Turkey I don’t think it’d be that piecemeal way they went into the Ukraine. They’d hammer Turkey big time. However Russia would have to fight NATO since Turkey is part of NATO.
