Some questions just answer themselves.
Apparently not if you are a liberal.

My mother’s brother, who was a smoker, and his wife (who wasn’t) lived on Long Island. We lived in Virginia.
Every three months or so, we would get a visit from them—Which was great because they were super people.
During these visits my uncle would stock up on cigarettes—dozens of cartons—because tobacco taxes were so much lower in Virginia.
This was back in the late 60’s/early 70’s.

Nothing more than legal prohibition. This was a women’s issue just like alcohol.

Imagine $10.00 per pack. I used to smoke 2 packs daily (I quit in 1985 when two packs cost me $1.40 ($.70 each)
At $10.00 each or $20.00 daily it comes to $600.00 per month or $7,200 annually.
How that in and of itself does not cause people to stop is beyond me.

New Yorkers drive up to New Hampshire to buy cigarettes and Booze as they pay a bundle less there then drive back to N.Y.
My folks use to do the same only we lived in Los Angeles and would drive to Tijuana for a booze run.
less than half and NO federal taxes.

Like gun laws....
Cig laws have no impact on those who really want them (and cheaper).

The bridges and tunnels into Manhattan have gone up to 15 dollars. A semi with 4 axles will pay 60 dollars to cross, The attorney general sniederman announced that he has banned virtual football in NY because he sez its a game of chance instead of he cant seem to get his vig from these companies who run it. Its not enough that the players if they win pay thier tax, The mayor wants as many Syrian refugees as possible, he, right after the calif massacre announced that he is reaching out to the muslim communites to calm thier fears, decade democratic leader shelly silver convicted of fraud, arrogant smug elitist governor who knows better than you on anything and everything. The parasites need a host to survive.

I don’t smoke so *this* isn’t an issue for me but I live less than 30 minutes from a *huge* shopping mall in sales-tax-free New Hampshire. The only major purchase on which I’ve paid state sales tax in the last 5 years was on a couple of cars. And I’m *moving* to New Hampshire soon so *that* will never happen again.

But people are also quitting smoking! Isn't this what the libs want?
Don't tell me that higher cigarette taxes was really going to go to stop smoking initiatives < /S >

I don’t smoke, but it is an established fact that alcohol causes more death and destruction than smoking ever has or ever will. Why no enormous tax on alcohol?

Same thing with car registration in Kansas. It is so much more expensive than any other state, that Kansas residents by the thousands have tagged their vehicles in other states by using parents or adult children’s addresses that live in other states. The majority are tagging them in Texas, followed by Missouri and Oklahoma. Because almost every Kansan has a close relative living in one of those states.
