That’s a fate worse than death.

We did walk sometimes to school when I was a kid. It was fun, through the woods and it was for miles. I don’t know if I’d feel comfortable letting my kids do it today, well I know I would not.

I walked to school too. But then the elementary school was in the neighborhood, I didn’t live on a busy street and we had more sane drivers than we have now. The other thing is that my folks didn’t have to worry about pedophiles or gangstas. We also knew our neighbors who had kids my age. Seldom had to walk alone.

It probably depends on the community and circumstances. If it’s safe for the child to walk to school, what’s the problem?

In Stalinist Russia, a “tenner” was a dreaded sentence. Many would not survive it, but many did and were released after. But the concept of 10 years was seen as utterly vicious.
For more perspective Butch Cassidy was arrested at Lander, Wyoming, for stealing horses and possibly for running a protection racket among the local ranchers there. He was imprisoned in the Wyoming State Prison in Laramie, Wyoming. After serving 18 months of a two-year sentence, he was released in January 1896.

And she faces 10 years for this.
Fascism sure is fun! How many clues do people need?

All of my kids walked to school from kindergarten thru high school.

They even had to CROSS STREETS the entire 13 years.

I should have been sent to the gas chamber.

..

‘So, I know from personal experience it can happen.’

So how long were you in prison?

Gosh; how ridiculous to go after this parent. Ted Cruz should use this case as exhibit one as why government is too large and intrusive.

I was left home alone each morning from the time I was 9. Parents left 6:30-7am and school didn’t start until sometime after 8. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for all kids, but walking to school alone isn’t an awful thing for a kid to do.

I remember very well walking to school alone when I was in Kindergarten. I had to cross two fairly busy streets (10th Street and Liberty Street) but no problem, they both had traffic lights and I certainly knew about red, yellow an green. Then I had to walk two more blocks and cross Cranberry Street. There was a tire store that had a blue sign with white lettering, and that was my reminder of where to cross.

I was FIVE, people.

And it was almost 60 years ago.

But more recently, MY boys walked their blind grandfather to the Senior Center when they were 5 and 7 years old. They were not only responsible for themselves, they were responsible for Grandy. They also made purchases for him and for themselves at the snack bar: they knew how to handle money and count their change!

Now parents are expected to treat their kids as if they were babies into their teens. It's pathetic.
