The University of Chicago has canceled all classes and activities at its Hyde Park campus after being warned by the FBI of an online threat of gun violence there.
In an alert sent out to the campus community, university president Robert Zimmer said FBI counterterrorism officials said the threat, posted by an unknown individual, specifically mentioned "'the campus quad' on Monday morning at 10 a.m."
"Based on the FBI's assessment of this threat and recent tragic events at other campuses across the country, we have decided in consultation with federal and local law enforcement officials, to exercise caution by canceling all classes and activities on the Hyde Park campus through midnight on Monday," Zimmer said.

went into a kfc in Nickerson Gardens or Compton, not sure which one. Steel plate over the window, with holes for voice and slide through tray for money and then food. Like a risen lock up door.

I had a girlfriend (hard to believe, I know) who’s mother had a fast food Asian restaurant on the West Side of Chicago. Another toilet. They had a small revolving door to take the money and give the food. They used to have a lift up door, but some guy stuck a gun through it and tried to rob them. Her brother sneaked around with a cleaver and took the guy’s hand off gun and all. Cops came and got the hand and gun and they never heard another thing about it. After that, they got a revolving door.
happy ending

I’m calling BS on this. They are creating another exploitable crisis.
In the Cleveland area of Randall Park, there is a liquor store that is a complete trip! You can’t pick up a bottle. Everything is behind bullet proof glass. You tell the behind the glass clerk what you want, and slide your money through a trough. The clerk then slides your bottle through another trough.. Barred windows and doors. Electronic locks. It’s kinda fun to go there. Search Randall Park Mall to get an idea about the area!
It seems to me, if they are canceling classes, because of the threat of gun violence, they might never open up again. There is always the threat of gun violence.
...Home of the BRAAAAVE!
BUMP
It's the baddest part of town
And if you go down there
You better just beware...
We were driving down a side street in the burbs not too long ago when 3 uh, youths, went to stand right in the middle as we turned the corner and came down the street. My husband was slowing down to stop (to wait for them to move I guess?) but I quickly said don’t stop just go, go around. Heh, back in my younger, more hot tempered days I would have stopped, called them idiots, and yelled to get the F out of the street! Good thing I’m calmer now cause these days that’d be pretty dumb thing to do.
Prodigal student buying time to study for exams.
Yes, this was an online threat, so I doubt it was ‘neighborhood’ related. Additionally, I wonder if HYDE PK AND UC get closer FBI coverage since Obama’s home is there.
There’s that phrase that guarantees a biased liberal spew: “GUN VIOLENCE”
Any time that phrase or “ASSAULT WEAPON” is used, no need to read the article for you already know what’s in it...GUN CONTROL!
I went to SIU and also lived in Hyde Park. Use to work at the U of C Hospital. My brother just moved out of Hyde Park this fall. I am so glad he did.
Hard to say...it’s an open secret around here that the University buys up any and all property in the surrounding neighborhoods as it becomes available. The longtime ghetto residents now complain about being forced out by the University’s policy.
Columbia is in the middle of downtown, right across from Grant Park, what are you talking about?
calls to study and perhaps succeed on ones own merits are cnsidered microagressions ...
