How Donald Trump Could Swing the Senate
rollcall.com ^ | 11/28/15 | Patricia Murphy

Imagine, for a moment, the once unthinkable scenario that Washington Republicans are beginning to contemplate: The GOP convention in Cleveland with Donald Trump as the nominee.

After Melania Trump and the Trump kids get prime time spots to talk about how The Donald will make America great again, every Republican senator and Senate nominee will get a turn at the podium to talk about the Republican Party and its new leader, Donald Trump.

New Hampshire’s Sen. Kelly Ayotte describes the “beautiful wall” coming between the U.S. and Mexico. Sen. Rob Portman talks about waterboarding, which Trump has endorsed with a “you bet your ass I would!” Sen. Ron Johnson defends the constitutionality of Trump’s call to surveil certain mosques, and Sen. Rand Paul reminisces about Trump making fun of his hair and height.

It’s not going to happen that way, of course. Every candidate except Portman, who represents Ohio, would find a “scheduling conflict” to avoid the awkwardness. But the prospect of otherwise strong swing-state Republicans having to get elected or re-elected with Donald Trump at the top of the GOP ticket becomes more real every day.

A Trump-topped ticket is a mouthwatering prospect for Democrats, especially when it comes to retaking control of the Senate. And if Hillary Clinton can win the presidency, which Democrats seem to believe a Trump nomination would almost guarantee, Democrats would only need to retake four seats, not five, to win control of the Senate.

Notice how they dont elude in any way that Hillary is “popular” and “beloved”?

Only that they have to feed their Trump derangement and merely pretend that him being there will win it for her.

Every thought process of the American people

Many of us don't have the official language to describe our thoughts, but we know what is right and what we want

Good post

“It’s not going to happen that way”........

That’s where the problem lies. The American people have been pushed aside by career politicians who would rather talk instead of “doing”. Trump has, and will continue saying what the people want said, problem is the rino’s aren’t listening. It is time for across the board change.

First we gave them the house to fight against obama, then the senate. Still nothing happened.

I believe Donald J. Trump, jr is, as many Americans do, is our last chance of poking the “Morlocks” of DC in the eye, and making America great again.

We're not stupid.

The press has lost its effectiveness against that which it least desires. It is irrelevant.

And they hate it. Trump has the microphone.

I read on another thread in the last week that Hillary is the Dems' equivalent of Bob Dole; it's her turn, and nobody can take it away from her. At least the nomination.

As to winning the actual election, that is a different story. Hillary is the only candidate in either party that attracts the black vote. (They vote for the establishment Dem, regardless. When it is an actual 1/2 black guy, even more.)

So who do the Bernie Sanders people vote for? Do they vote for Hillary, or Trump, or just stay home?

Based on the young people in my family who thinks Sanders is the cats meow...

They aren’t voting for Trump...they think he is a buffoon...

Probably will hold their nose and vote for PIAPS...

Would it really make any difference? The voters gave the Senate to the GOP and Harry Reid is still in charge. The current Senate with its GOP majority gives Obama anything he wants. Now that Obama has removed the Senate from the entire process, I don’t see why we even need a Senate. It’s all about the executive and its judicial branch now.

I expect Kelly Ayotte to endorse the Hillary Clinton-Jeb Bush ticket.

Can you imagine that he picks someone like Cruz as his running mate. Then Cruz can campaign in those Senate and HOuse races, where perhaps Trump won’t be welcome, OTOH, Trump comes into town with Cruz and they appeal to the independents, and the black and Hispanic and blue collar Reagan dems... and he asks them to please vote for us and the republican running here.

I’m telling you, he might run the chart and end up with a huge majority in the senate and house... Huuuuuuuuuuuge.

How, tho, can Trump have coattails when he is a walking triangulation who does not have a comfortable home in either party?

After the honeymoon, he might find himself battling both parties in Congress.

Am I the only one here who knows Democrats and so called Independents that would Vote for Trump?

Heck, I’m a Cruz guy and those same People wouldn’t give Cruz the time of day, no matter how much I talk him up.

This is one heck of a Campaign Season.
