Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a series of economic sanctions against Turkey following the downing of Russian figher jet by Turkish forces earlier this week.
A decree published on the Kremlin's website on Saturday came hours after Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan voiced "sadness" over the incident, saying he wished it had not happened.

Based on how Russia and Putin have reacted to the downing, Erdogan is going to be sad over and over.
By reacting how it has, Russia is making an example of Turkey to other countries, as a warning don’t mess with the bear.

Somehow I think downing a non NATO aircraft in non NATO airspace involving a non NATO action invokes article “don’t be stupid” not article V.
The supposed sadness is news to me. All I’ve heard is Erdogan saying it was justifed and warnings to Putin.
One thing the article doesn’t specifically mention in $ terms is the fact that these economic embargoes & sanctions apply to tourism sector too. Tourism being a major source of revenue for Erdogan govt.
Russian tourists visiting Turkey are only second in numbers to Germans tourists visiting Turkey. One reason being that Turkey did not require pre-entry visas from Russian passport holders.
In terms of revenue, in 2014 Turkey generated some $4 billion USD (some estimate say circa $6 billion USD) from Russian tourists visiting Turkey. Russians visiting Turkey tend to spend a lot.

Russia will not attack Turkey any more than we attacked the Soviet Union after they shot down more than a dozen US military aircraft during the Cold War. This will all blow over. And the Russians will be very careful about being near Turkish air space. The Russians were warned by the Turks two successive days before the shoot down that they would not tolerate continued Russian violation of their airspace. The Russian ambassador was called in twice.

NATO does not have to do anything. Russia is cutting off its nose to spite its face, if it cuts off all economic activity. In 2014, according to Turkish foreign trade statistics, exports to Russia were worth $5.9 billion while imports from Russia were worth $25.2 billion.
As of 2012 the oil-and-gas sector accounted for 16% of the GDP, 52% of federal budget revenues and over 70% of total exports. The Russian economy is contracting due to sanctions and declining oil prices. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) downgraded its economic forecast for Russia as it projects recession of 3.8% in GDP for 2015 and of 0.6% for 2016.
I doubt that Russia will scrap the deal the build a new oil pipeline thru Turkey to reach Western Europe or its plans to build a nuclear power plant in Turkey. There will be lots of bluster with little impact.
If Putin continues his war in Ukraine and a new one in Syria, he will be the one in trouble. The Russians can't afford it. The corrupt KGB punk is stealing huge amounts of money, no doubt in a Swiss bank account.
