DES MOINES, Iowa -- Ted Cruz is rising in the polls. He has one of the stronger Republican organizations in the GOP presidential race. And he certainly has a path to win the Iowa caucuses, especially after a recent Quinnipiac poll found Cruz in a dead heat with Donald Trump here in the Hawkeye State.
But some Iowa Republicans - even those open to his message - wonder if Cruz is too conservative and controversial to win the general election as the Republican Party's presidential nominee.
Bob Wilson, 64, of Johnston, Iowa, who likes Cruz but is undecided on a candidate in the GOP race, doubts the Texas Republican's appeal among the general electorate.
"Will he be elected because he's a lightning rod?" Wilson asked rhetorically while shaking his head back and forth. "It's not because of his policies. I just don't think he has the personality to capture the national election."

Hahahaha!
“Electable”
Like Dole, McCain, Romney
Paraphrasing Ann Coulter: “Electable” gave us Dole, McCain and Romney. Supporting the crazy conservative gave us President Reagan.
It will be tough because all of Washington would be against him including the republicans, but yes he is more than electable....oh and he is principled....
Unfortunately, Cruz is not electable as President.
*************************************************************
Right, you’re using the same argument they used against Reagan back in 1980. It wasn’t true about Reagan and it is not true about Cruz.
He absolutely is electable. Consider the source. Don’t fall in that trap. The only way he is not electable is if true conservative get suckered into not voting for him.
Ah, the stupid canard that “Cruz isn’t electable.”
Romney, of course, was electable.
The nebulous “electability” test is as sound as global warming science as are those who cite it as if it held water.
You complain about Trump attacks and yet you post Cruz concern crap, over-and-over again.
Ditto!
The answer is... Probably not.
Cruz is the best and most solid social/constitutional conservative in the race. I too have wondered if he is too good and too conservative for the current American electorate to elect him. But I think it’s too soon to say. The first thing to do is to vote for him in the primaries. If he wins the nomination, then we take it from there. By that time, his name recognition will be way up and more people will get to see and hear him, which is a good thing. He’s got my vote (March 15, Missouri).
Not a Cruz supporter, but I have two things to say:
1. If I wanted to find an establishment non-conservative to comment, Johnston is one of the places I would look.
and
2. To establishment non-conservatives, no conservative is ever considered “electable.”
I'm just counterbalancing your unfair we need to depose Trump, he is a "neo-Nazi", etc meme-building posts with this post. I like Cruz. You can say you don't agree with the nasty Trump articles you post, but there isn't a neo-Nazi Trump hating article that you won't refuse to post. This is called meme-building and dirty tricks.
Cruz is plenty electable.
Or at least as electable as a conservative can be in an era when nearly 50% of the population pays no income taxes.
Trump is at 37% because he had his own TV show and he is wall to wall in the news cycle. Everybody is heard of him, he says ‘outrageous’ things, and doubles down when the media and the GOP Establishment tries to trip him up. He puts on a great show.
I like Cruz more than Trump and will vote for him the Primary, provided he is still in. But I am willing to vote for Trump in the General (which more than I can say for Jeb, Rubio, Kasich, Christie, etc.).
Only posted 2 hitpieces on Cruz and they weren’t that bad. 2nddivision posts all of the ugly neo-Nazi pieces on Trump. Dozens of them. Then when called on it he just says he doesn’t agree with the article. He just posts it. Whatever!
Have you even read a poll in the last month?
