Putin orders economic sanctions against Turkey after downing of Russian plane

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday called for economic sanctions against Turkey after a Russian jet was downed earlier this week on the Syrian border.

The sanctions were announced in a decree published on the Kremlin's website and comes as Turkish President Recep Tayipp Erdogan voiced regret over the incident, saying he wished the event hadn't happened.

The decree calls for bans on some goods and forbids extensions of labor contracts to Turkish individuals working in Russia, The Associated Press reported.

It also calls for ending chartered flights from Russia to Turkey and for all Russian tourism companies to stop offering vacation packages to Turkey.

On Tuesday, Turkish F-16 jets shot down a Russian warplane after Turkey claimed the warplane had crossed the Syrian border and violated Turkish airspace, despite sending multiple warnings. Russia claimed no such warning was received.

Erdogan knows he really stepped in it but doesn't have the guts to admit he's wrong.

Erdogan might do well to post one of these cards to Putin right about now.

The double-dealing creep Erdogan wants to use ISIS and AQ to bring down Assad and the Kurds, then destroy them and take over Syria. Now that Russia put a stop to that he wants to use the USA to force Russia out of Syria. So he staged this incident hoping for an armed response from Putin so he could invoke the NATO treaty. So far Putin isn’t biting.

Anyone remember how we placed sanctions on Russia when it invaded Ukraine? And how everyone laughed?

What changed? LOL

I believe you’ve got it precisely right and Putin is fully aware of it. I’m no fan of Putin’s but I’ll take him any day over the snake Erdogan.

So much for our war. And if somebody stepped in something it’s Putin. Jumped into a messy situation to start with, then decided to violate other country’s air space. “Economic sanctions”, funny to see Putin finally lose a stare down.

I don’t believe there’s anything funny about the entire mess, especially about Erdogan supporting ISIS.

It’s either hilarious or a tragedy. Take your pick. Sure Erdogan supports ISIS, it’s a mid-east situation, EVERYBODY involved in them is a bad guy. Erdogan, Putin, Assad, the rebels, ISIS THEY’RE ALL bad guys. The best we can hope for is that they all kill each other in a way that doesn’t leave too much mess behind.

say he ...We are truly saddened by this incident...Mr. Erdogan said while addressing supporters in the western city of Balikesir on Saturday, AP reported... We wish it had not happened as such, but unfortunately such a thing has happened. I hope that something like this does not occur again...

Tail between his legs, the mealy-mouthed muzzie coward. Got set up in an attempt to use NATO as it was used in Serbia and Libya? The threat of Russian retribution too much for him to take? Sorry, no more dreams of a second Ottoman Empire for you, scummy Erdogan.

I agree with you on the lot of them killing each other off without leaving too much of a mess, that would be approaching a miracle but miracles have happened.

“then decided to violate other country’s air space.”

Nonsense. If the Russian plane went into Turkish airspace, it was for no more than 10 seconds. Clearly the Truks planned on shooting down a Russian plane. Russia is interfering with Erdogan’s plan to destroy Assad and the Kurds, and he want’s NATO (meaning the US) to get rid of them for him.

Really, the Putin has erdogan just where he wants him. Either the dick makes a visible separation from ISIS or he gets pegged as one of the enemy and booted from NATO. One of the other or NATO finds itself knee-deep at odds with Russia and in contention with who will control ME oil in the future.

No nonsense about it. Even if it’s “just for 10 seconds” you don’t fly armed planes over somebody else’s airspace without permission, ever. It’s an act of war. And this wasn’t the first incident. The Turks SHOULD have shot it down, that’s the correct response to repeated violations of your air space.

By that standard, Russia has every right to shoot down our planes over Syria. They are after all there with the permission of the Syrian government, we aren’t. Nor is Turkey, who send air and ground forces into Syrian territory.

So... do you think no one has ever done that before ?

Assad and his allies DO have every right to shoot down our planes. We are actively helping the rebels, we are very directly engaged in acts of war against Syria.
