There's a lot of talk about what should be done to help our Veterans who have so selflessly given themselves to the service of the United States. Republicans will talk a good game and make-believe they are the ones who actually care about Vets, but in reality, they have voted against Veteran benefits more times than anyone would ever care to count. It wasn't until the Democrats passed the Post-9/11 GI Bill that we, as a nation, actually started to again look like we care about those who put everything on the line for our nation.
Then, in 2010, President Obama really made the push to help the homeless, including Veterans. Within 4 years, half of homeless Vets are off the streets.
The Obama program that really got the ball rolling was called Opening Doors, which is a program to help eradicate homelessness nationwide.

And while homelessness, in general, has declined by 11% from 2007 to January 2015 and chronic homelessness by 31%, the most dramatic decrease has been among homeless veterans where "the number of unsheltered homeless veterans across the nation has plummeted by 50% in the past four years."
In fact, one state has actually eradicated homelessness among Vets altogether - Virginia. In Virginia they have a "housing first" initiative. Which is a "policy that holds that providing homeless people with safe, supportive shelter is a precondition for attending to the issues that caused them to slip through the cracks in the first place."

I’d bet money thats a gross exaggeration or outright lie. A great many homeless with mental issues don’t want to deal with their problems. Maybe its part of their problem or just a choice but its certainly a fact. Thats why we have so many here in NYC. Not allowed to put people in hospitals to help them with mental issues.
Liberal propaganda. I call bullshit on this one. I’ve read the opposite from too many other legitimate news resources over the past number of years to buy this.
ok then lets use the money we are going to throw away on muslim refugee invaders and help the other 50%. we does this regieme think it;s only compassionate to help other countries but not our own citizens? oh wait i know. white privilege.
“Off the streets” = “morgue”.

Or thrown into mental institutions.â...When did they bring those back? I worked 22 years in the ones which were shut down, one after another. Retired in 2010. Never saw one start up except jails and prisons.
Yeah, by denying them benefits they killed themselves.
I don’t know where these bozos are talking about but the homeless, beggar numbers are much, much greater in southern California.I can ‘t pull up to a major intersection or walk into a 7-11 without getting hit up for change and a lot claim to be vets as per their home made cardboard signs.
I went to the site to read the article, and then made the mistake of reading the comments.
What a bunch of deluded misled leftists.
I need a shower...
I went to DC for the Freeps, 15 or so, and helped organize about 50 or so in Boston, small but fun. The number of REAL homeless vets was small the number of fakes was large.
Excuse my cynicism but I have seen to many frauds to believe the gov.
I am claiming BULLSHIT on that. They havent been to S. Texas
Here in Corpus our streets are full of winter homeless. They come here for the climate. Not because that can get a home. I know firsthand. All the homeless shelters get filled.
