Turkey's Erdogan warns Russia not to 'play with fire'

ISTANBUL

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan warned Russia not to "play with fire" on Friday, but added he did not want to harm relations with Moscow, comments that look more likely to inflame than quell the dispute over a downed Russian bomber this week.

Relations between the former Cold War antagonists are at their worst in recent memory after Turkey shot down the jet near the Syrian border on Monday. Russia has threatened economic retaliation against Ankara, which Erdogan has dismissed as "emotional" and "unfitting".

"We very sincerely recommend to Russia not to play with fire," Erdogan told supporters during a speech in Bayburt, in northeast Turkey. "We really attach a lot of importance to our relations with Russia... We don't want these relations to suffer harm in any way."

If NATO can be kept out of it, a war between Russia and Turkey would benefit whom, if anyone?

Well, that is why I said if. Now, if we are now in agreement about that, fine. ;-)

“There is no proof that the Russians actually violated Turkish space, other than Erdogan’s worthless word.”

Actually they have radar proof that has been confirmed by US and NATO. And there is confirmation of the warnings given on open channels by other flights near the area.

Despite looking I am unable to corroborate your assertions. However, the Russians, unlike the US, has released its radar and tracking data.

As of right now the ball is in the Turkish-US court as to what actually happened and why. We do know that the Russians told the US of the mission plan in detail.

We do know that the Turks had to be waiting for the Russians to show up. We do know that to get a hit with the short range missile, the Turks had to briefly cross into Syrian air. Zero Hedge, to whomever the site belongs, has the Russian side. Seeing the details they have released, makes me wonder. Read the actual Article and debunk it, if you will.

Obama has been working against US and Israeli interests for 7 years.

I hope Netanyahu and Putin, can forge a working relationship that turns into a defacto coalition to limit and compromise Iran's development in that arena. Had the US not twice elected Obama, Israel would have had other options. As it is, Obama is focused on doing all he could get away with to surreptitiously bring in new Islamic administrations that are hostile to Israel.

..-A United States military spokesman, Col. Steven Warren, confirmed on Tuesday that Turkish pilots had warned the Russian pilot 10 times, but that the Russian jet ignored the warnings. Colonel Warren, speaking from Baghdad to reporters in Washington -

The pilot lied, Putin lied and Lavov lied. Russians lie.

So we are to believe whatever the NYSlimes prints and whatever the WH tells us is the truth? I must have missed something ...

Despite your apparent dislike for the Russian - which must come from some dreadful personal experience - they do not always lie, unlike Obama.

Dude. The Russians themselves admit that they violated Turkish airspace. Just because RT reported it the other way at the beginning doesn’t mean you have to follow the story into the ground. Learn to fly.

They did? The media must have accidentally omited that point from the stories I read - NTSlimes excepted.

I can't believe you made me find it in that cesspit that is RT:

Russia has admitted making a mistake after its warplanes violated Turkey's airspace.
[]
The Russian Defense Ministry has said that bad weather caused the incident when Russian combat aircraft violated Turkish airspace.
Source.

So is Russian government controlled media reporting on the Russian government a suitable source for you?

Please see my #93. If the Russian government itself admits the airspace violation, there’s no reason to get caught-up in the weeds.

According to Ankara, the Russian jet was hit in Turkish airspace after it failed to respond to warnings. However, rescued pilot Captain Konstantin Murakhtin insists that his plane did not cross into Turkey's airspace, and said he was given no visual or radio warning before being fired at.

"It's impossible that we violated their airspace even for a second," Konstantin Murakhtin told RT. "We were flying at an altitude of 6,000 meters in completely clear weather, and I had total control of our flight path throughout."

The article you quote was posted on October 6th - before all the evidence was in. Later reviews showed that the jet was not in Turkey, and if it was only for 3 seconds. That is not a cause to shoot down a plane, warning or not - those sorts of incidents are a call for escorts, not missiles. The shoot down was deliberate act by Erdogen & Co and made with foreknowledge of the jet's position, else it could not have happened - the time was too brief.

You evidently have a very strong personal dislike of the Russians, and things Russian. You really must have had a very dreadful experience with them at some point.

Is this how it went, Russia decides to help Assad stay in power then ISIS takes down their airliner so they hit them in the wallet? This makes Obama mad because Russia is putting the hurt on his Muslims brothers so he has Turkey shoot down one of their bombers. Putin sets up a no fly zone over Syria. What is Obama going to do now with the F15s at the Incirlik Air Base in Turkey?

"Later reviews showed...."

Got a link to any? My personal dislike for Putin, and his sychophants here, has nothing to do with what the Russian Defense Ministry itself admits.

So if you have anything that shows the Russians walked-back that statement, let's see it. I'd also like to hear why the Russians claim bad weather caused the incident, while the pilot claims the weather was "completely clear."

Turkey already lost many wars attacking Armenia and provoking a Bloshevick kick a$$ in Turkmenistan ending the Ottoman aspirations in the Caucasus for good. I am not supporting Armenian Bolshevicks but Turkey’s Napoleonian dreams of taking over Russia is absolutely ridiculous.
