That is not just Turks. It is Muslims. Look back at the first U.S. undeclared war, against the Barbary States. It occurred in two phases, 1801-1805 and 1815-1816. The taking of non-muslims for slaves did not completely stop until 1850 when France conquered Algeria.
Then there was the rise of the Mahdi in the Sudan and the River War that helped make Winston Churchill’s reputation.
It occurred in 1899. The Muslim threat was finally stopped with the breakup of the Ottoman Empire at the end of WWI and the rise of Ataturk, in 1919.
Now we have had the Somali pirates, the rise of Al Queda, the establishment of ISIS, the undoing of much of Attaturk’s work in Turkey.
We are due to teach the Muslim world another lesson, but out leadership is feckless, without faith, and encourages the enemy.
I am not idolizing Ataturk. He is guilty of one of the early genocides of the 20th Century, the genocide against the Armenians.
