Ted Cruz on Wednesday edged into a virtual tie with GOP front-runner Donald Trump in a new Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday for the state of Iowa, with Trump retaining a narrow lead of 25 percent of the vote, followed by Cruz with 23 percent, doubling his support from four weeks ago.

I’ll take a wheeler-dealer who can get the job done and has a PROVEN record in accomplishing the difficult....and just maybe the Impossible will only take a little longer.
Any SMART leader has a good staff who are experts in their fields. It is what I expect of Trump just as I expected it of Reagan. Too many others have meddled in things that were above their pay grade and appointed political cohorts to positions where they were totally unqualified. Trump won’t make that mistake.
Trump speaks plain, unvarnished American. People understand him. So did Reagan who was called the great communicator because he understood people.
Trump stood silent...as opposed to constantly interrupting, a la Fiorina and Kasich? What a gripe.
Selectively editing the answer gains you no points. Trump said the answer to many world issues/problems is a resurgence in respect for the USA—which he would bring about.

Good attempt to spin... but you and I know his knowledge of the subject of foreign policy is an inch deep. Any candidate worth his salt would agree a resurgence in respect for the USA would be a starting point. But Trump has no understanding of the intricacies and nuances of world politics.

Have Americans become so lily-livered that they can’t take an insult here or there without having a hissy fit? THAT is one of the left’s greatest arguments, that we must be calm, measured, and polite to each other and certainly not divert our steps from the path chosen for us by our betters!

You’re right, but that’s why the issue of donors is basically irrelevant. The candidate could have a ton of right or wrong positions whether or not he has donors. You can be pro-choice or pro-life without needing a donor to tell you which way to be.
I’m talking Romney’s campaign in the primary, not the general.
People around the GOP have admitted they accidentally made a path for Trump. The path was mapped out so the candidate with the most money would win easier. They thought it would be Bush.
Social conservatives have soured on Trump to some extent, and they were the Achilles’ heel for Romney as well in the primary. They ended up going to Gingrich and Santorum because they didn’t trust Romney’s stances on abortion and same-sex marriage. Trump his similarly flip-flopped and is seen as more untrustworthy than most candidates. Romney had an advantage of having Mormon support though which Trump doesn’t have.
Trump and Romney are also northeastern Republicans. So culturally they were unbeatable in NH and the northeastern states. The GOP also set up the primary to have more winner-take-all contests in those blue states vs. the southern states, so that will help Trump fend off an upstart from a more reliably conservative challenger like Cruz.
The major battle might be for the South. Cruz absolutely needs to win those to have a chance. If Trump does well in Southern states there might be no stopping him. Obviously Iowa is not enough and was not enough for Huckabee and Santorum.
Poll shows support for Carson and especially Rubio is weak while support for Trump and Cruz is stronger. That’s especiaily troubling news for Carson who is already spiralling down in support and still lacks a bedrock foundation.
I think Cruz would be wasted on the Supreme Court before he serves his 8 years as President. He can pick out conservative Justices better than anybody so let him pack the court first before joining them there.
I don’t “Twitter” nor do I have a Facebook page. I do not consider mass, cookie cutter thinking the proper road to a good education. I also do not need the so called “Friends” which being a part of the herd assures.
Despite the current propensity to condemn those who choose their own road and are not interested in being one of the crowd, some of us still think for ourselves. It’s the way things used to be before the Marxists took over the education in America.....and the political scene.
A prime example of what I am talking about was when Rep. Allen West was running for reelection in the 18th District of Florida. At a Town Hall meeting he was asked “How many Communists do you think currently hold elected positions in our government?....or words to that effect. There was a National Scandal when he replied something around Eighty.
He was right, but he was shouted down by all of the politicians on both side of the aisle and most of the American people who follow the go along to get along dictates. Allen West was right, but his opinion differed, and his personal honor would not allow him to avoid the question or be politically correct in his answer. He told the truth and was literally crucified throughout the country. That answer was what won my vote and caused me to dedicate a lot of work to his campaign. We need more Allen West’s who will tell it like it is. West likes Trump. He doesn’t go around ragging on him like many here do.
I think Cruz knew that peaking early wouldn’t help him. It would only encourage attacks on him long before anybody would be voting. He just had to stay in the polls high enough to stay on the main stage of the debates and avoid the stigma of the kiddie pool. I’m sure he did not predict the success of Trump, who is without a doubt the main man standing in his way of winning the primary.
There’s been no easy strategy to go against Trump, but he took the gamble of not attacking him and hoping he’d either collapse on his own or someone else would take him out. So far it looks like that strategy may win him Iowa. He’ll lose NH and be slammed with headwind in the northeastern states though. At the very least, he becomes a strong contender for V.P. if he holds second place and as long as Trump doesn’t go so hard criticizing him that he would look like a fool for picking him for V.P. later.

In a few words Trump put his finger on the nexus of the problem. World leaders hold Obama in contempt, and that extends to the USA. I suppose you were equally sarcastic when Reagan said, “We win, they lose.’
This is the battle before the storm of the general election. Someone has to win and all’s fair in love and war. This is a time to select the very best of the offerings. Truman had it right when he said “If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen.” A little heat seems to make some candidates run. It seems to make some others think “it isn’t fair.” Well, I think this country needs a street fighter now, not another diplomat. This country is in DIRE Straits and needs a strong personality and a DO IT NOW person rather than another polite sycophant who plays political games.

I wasn’t impressed because Rubio is of the McCain/Linda school of foreign policy.
Rubio would have to do better than that attack ad.

I’m anti-amnesty - I couldn’t care less which candidate it is. It happens to be Cruz on this thread. I’ve posted about Carson, Jen, Rubio, Fiorina, and Huckabee as well.

I’ve escaped 2 border states and don’t want my new home invaded. I’ll post about any candidate beholden to big donors that want cheap labor over saving our country.
If you’re in the business of voting for candidates that moderates and Democrats like, then you’re not on the side of fighting for conservatism. You sound like Obama fighting ISIS. Let’s bomb them, but not bomb them TOO hard because they might get even more mad at us!

Plus electing moderates doesn’t work because the left never votes for liberal lite when they can have the real thing, and the right-wing base stays home. See Dole, McCain, Romney.
