TURKISH warplanes have shot down a Russian jet which they claim flew into the country's airspace. The aircraft was shot down after it was warned 10 times in five minutes to leave Turkish airspace, a Turkish military official has said.

It was just over the Syrian border in Turkey when it was downed by F16 Fighting Falcon jets belonging to Turkey, the official added.

But Russian President Vladimir Putin said the plane was 4km into Syria and had not violated Turkey's airspace as it flew at an altitude of 6,000 metres - and claimed it was shot down from the ground not the air.

NATO has announced it will be holding an extraordinary session at 4pm GMT after Turkey requested it following the incident.

“I hope Putin ends Turkey.”

For centuries Christians, many of them dying, have been praying for someone to end that Islamic Mordor.

“Just heard report that FSA killed one of the pilots as he was parachuting down—and still in the air. Is this a US-supported group? So uncontrolled that it is okay to shoot a pilot while in the air parachuting down. Don’t care who the pilot is, this is wrong.”

It was done in WWII including by US Forces. An enemy airman parachuting where he would be recovered by his side and returned to flying status was considered a legitimate target. It was rejected by most pilots, but the term “parachute ace” was applied.

Ilyana, huh? Kind of a pretty name. I’d be willing to bet there’s more than just a boss-hired troll relationship between you two.

She doesn’t sound like your average kerchief-wearing, turnip-digging babushka.

I have been praying for our special forces since Russia started bombing..Obama wants the rebels armed against Assad..Russia supports Assad...so our guys are vulnerable.

I heard commentary that the only way to defeat Isis was to shore up Assad..and as that won’t happen by the US..we won’t defeat Isis.

God help us.

NO to our ground troops going in!

Here is a question...a few months ago US withdrew missile systems from Turkey....then a few weeks ago sent in some F22's

were the withdrawn missiles air defense systems...?"

If so...seems to me has left the F22 air base vulnerable.

I would amend your statement with one word, tacked onto the very end:

I’d trust Putin more.

Neither Putin nor Erdogan are trustworthy.

that remains to be seen
Lavrov seems to be one of the most astute diplomats in the world right now and there is a heckuva lot going on relating to long term economic development of the Eurasian heartland and that is driving security arrangements for the long term , for which Putin is earning major karma points

I’d stack Lavrov and Putin up over john Kerry, Valerie Jarrett, Susan Rice and obama
