Texas asks Supreme Court for delay in Obama amnesty case

WASHINGTON -- Texas asked the Supreme Court Monday for more time to answer the Obama administration's immigration appeal, a delay that probably would prevent the plan to shield millions of immigrants from deportation from taking effect during Barack Obama's presidency.

If the justices agree to the state's request, the administration's plan would miss the court's informal deadline for a decision by the end of June. The plan that Obama unveiled a year ago mainly affects people who are living in the country illegally, but who have children who are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.

Unless the court was to take the rare step of scheduling an argument in May, the issue would not be heard by the justices until the fall or decided before spring 2017.

The administration is opposing the request for a 30-day delay, Justice Department spokesman Patrick Rodenbush said. "The case presents issues of national importance and the department believes it should be considered expeditiously," Rodenbush said.

Lawbreaking should always be done “expeditiously.”

Why haven’t these people signed up for work permits so that they are registered? We knew a fellow from Columbia that came into the country legally, studying to be a Catholic priest. Eventually he went into the service and after several years, left the priesthood to marry. He was granted legal citizenship after serving in the US military. It took him awhile, but he was determined and found a legal way. He is a wonderful person and we are lucky to have him in the US.

I honestly believe that a good many of the illegals don’t want to become citizens, if they did they’d come here legally and assimilate and work to become naturalized citizens.

La Raza and many of the illegals are more interested in claiming US land belongs to them.

The illegals I see daily have no interest in speaking our language, much less becoming legal. I have been scorned for not speaking their language.

I know no one in gov’t, and I can tell they don’t know what WE have to deal with daily. If they only lived Texas (not Austin).

Ted Cruz earned my vote.

With this Supreme Court, all bets are off. They probably won’t approve the delay, especially if John Roberts is the decider.

History has PROVEN you correct. Only 30% of Mexican illegals given amnesty by Ronald Reagan and Congress in 1986 ever became citizens.

True that.

I’ve been reading what our Founders feared of the Supremes.
