After Paris Attacks, a Political Leader Wants to Bring Back This Medieval Execution for Jihadists

The terrorist attacks in Paris have prompted one political leader to call for turning back the clock to more medieval forms of execution.

The leader, Jean Marie Le Pen, who founded France's most popular far-right party, doesn't think that current solutions to fight terrorism are panning out for his countrymen.

Newsweek reported on what Le Pen suggests they do instead:

The founder of France's far-right National Front (FN) Jean Marie Le Pen urged France to reinstate the death penalty and commit convicted terrorists to the guillotine, French weekly news magazine Marianne reports.

"We must restore the death penalty for terrorists," Le Pen said, before adding "with decapitation."

Medieval? Not by a long, long way. It's also more humane than most other methods, or so we are told - not a single victim has complained.

Now, you want medieval, try breaking on the wheel or drawing and quartering or impalement. Or the one supposedly used on Edward II, although there is considerable doubt that it actually happened, involving a red-hot poker in a very personal place. Now that's medieval.

The guillotine was a modern development created for good ol’ Jacobin ruled France. It was in use well into the late 20th Century.

The last execution by guillotine in France was in 1977.
Hamida Djandoubi was a Tunisian immigrant who had been convicted of the torture and murder of 21-year-old Elisabeth Bousquet in Marseille. Likely a moslem, I’d say.

The guillotine was not medieval; actually, it was invented as a more humane form of execution. That stated: I agree completely that it should be employed provided it’s well lubricated with lard.

I’ll presume he means that ones they CAPTURE....

Now, as to ‘what’s wrong’: it does nothing to deter the crime(s).

What we/they SHOULD do is, upon reclamation of a body (suicide/battlefield/etc.) or after execution, bury them on a pig farm after pumping their heads/guts full of pork fat.

The medieval period in France ended in the 1400s. The guillotine was invented in 1792. The last person guillotined in France was in 1977.
