A firefighter who was allowed to graduate the Fire Academy despite failing physical tests has already gone out on medical leave — just 10 days into the job, The Post has learned.

Probationary firefighter Choeurlyne Doirin-Holder injured herself Monday while conducting a routine check of equipment at Queens’ Engine 308 in South Richmond Hill. Getting off the truck, Doirin-Holder missed a step and landed on her left foot, suffering a fracture, sources said.

It was her second shift after a transfer from Engine 301. In training for a hazmat assignment, officers found her struggling to perform the required tasks.

Well, at least they didn't hire another white, hetero-patriarchal, sexist, bigoted, nationalistic, racist, ethno-centric, anti-feminist male.</s>

Yup.

I worked in a mental institution and aides were required to subdue, lift and assist the geebers. Once, they had an eighteen yr. old woman taking the physical for employment. She was 5’9” and weighed over 400 pounds. They actually had to weigh her on the freight scale. When I saw this I was shocked and turned to the HR woman and demanded “You are NOT seriously considering hiring that cow are you?” She shrugged and said she passed the written test. Four days after hire, I had an accident report on my desk that SAID she injured her back. They put her on disability.

Team her up with the black “fireman” who is afraid to fight fires and just stands around while whitey fights the fires.

Since she was injured on duty, she is eligible for a disability pension that would pay three-quarters of her annual salary, tax-free, if deemed unfit to return.

Or worse, her attorney will seek a much larger settlement by arguing in front of a jury of her peers that she was never fit for this highly hazardous job in the first place and the government was negligent for exposing her to the risk. (/snort).

I wonder if those firefighters are superstitious enough to think of her as a “Jonah”?

I’m in pretty good shape for my age. I can also do seventy decent pushups in just over one minute. We baby boomers have it in our power to age a bit more gracefully than our parents’ generation because we understand (or ought to) the ramifications of age, and expect to live longer.

That wouldn't surprise me at all! And it's not really the fault of the lawyers, but of the laws that make such actions possible.

They passed the Functional Skills Test, or FST, a tough obstacle course of tasks such as climbing six flights of stairs in full gear and dragging dummies.

Hmmmm, I think I know of a position for Choeurlyne where she can at least be useful. Throw in that judge while you're at it.

You baby boomers may live longer because of the good care you got by the parents who you insult by saying that they don’t/didn’t understand the ramifications of old age.

The boomer arrogance shining through.

Sorry but I’ve seen 270 lb men with 2% body fat have this same injury.. Not defending her being passed but to claim missing a step and landing wrong resulting in a fracture is not something that is a result of not being able to pass a physical.

Let’s compare the percentage of men who would sustain this same injury vs the number of women.

Fact, men’s skeletons are more dense.

Sorry but as I’ve said I’ve seen this same injury and exact same cause on 270 lb men with 2% body fat, you land wrong, you wind up creating a lever that puts pressure on the ankle/femur/foot that no human being is going to survive without a fracture. It’s basic physics, thinking bone density will make a difference is comical for this sort of fall/injury.

I didn’t say it couldn’t happen to men.

Greater numbers of women, percentage, will suffer this injury with the same type of ‘fall’ than men.

Biology is not a social construct.

“the authors emphasize that, anatomically and physiologically,
women are not the same as men; lower extremity biomechanical differences between men and women may account for gender differences
in training injury rates. Women have increased pelvic width, forefoot
pronation, heel valgus angulation, pes planus, external tibial torsion,
and femoral anteversion. Additionally, because of the estrogen influence,
women have less lean body mass and greater ligamentous laxity.”

Biology is not a social construct.

She’s looking for an injury she can sue the city for and live off the settlement the rest of her life.
