For sure they knew exactly what they were doing.they knew Benghazi days were limited and this was their chance to get rid of Stevens as well and they did it.
Exactly everyone knew Stevens was in charge of gun running. he had connections all over the Mideast.he was the perfect man for the job but as Benghazi wound down and it was obvious they couldn’t maintain the bunker there with the CIA and all they did what they did.

from what I researched initially the weapons went to other terrorists in Libya and later on to Turkey and turkey smuggled them into Syria to what later became isis.
