New Orleans police released surveillance footage of Tulane University medical student Peter Gold being shot early Friday morning (Nov. 20) while trying to stop an apparent armed robbery at Magazine and St. Mary streets in the Lower Garden District.
Gold, 25, stopped his car upon seeing a man dragging a woman toward an SUV in the 1000 block of Saint Mary Street, police said. When he tried to help, police said the gunman pointed a weapon at Gold and demanded his money.
"The victim explained to the suspect, repeatedly, that he did not have any cash," NOPD said in a news release. "The suspect became enraged and shot the victim once in the stomach and attempted to shoot him a second time, but the gun jammed."
The gunman took the woman's purse and drove away in a gray or silver SUV, police said. She was not injured.

Peter Gold risked and almost lost his life to step up and do the right thing — very likely saving a young woman from brutal rape, murder, and God knows what else. God Bless you, Mr. Gold.
Comments at the source article include those by a young woman of color who demands to know how Gold knew any crime was being committed, just because a hooded black guy was “helping” a white girl towards a car (Hmm...just like black serial rapist-killer Jesse Matthew’s m.o.). That was like so raciss. And dangerous too — the victim should have just moved on. I guess she can’t stand it that “profiling” turned out 100 correct.
If the escape vehicle belongs to the would-be killer, cops should be able to bust him soon enough.
They work so hard but their work is never done.
The kid is lucky. The thug tried to shoot him in the head a number of times but couldn't get his Tec 9 or Tec 22 to cooperate.
I feel for the kid. I did almost the same thing at his age with a similar result though not quite as bad.
Agreed. A weapon and, most importantly, the will to use it.
From the first few seconds of the video, to me it clearly looks like an abduction.
The med student is a hero. He risked his life to help the woman.
The suspect was attempting to steal the female victims purse. It was a robbery. The male victim who was unable to defend himself is lucky to be alive.
If he lives, he won’t be doing that again. Bet the rent.
I read that, too. But it sure looks like he is dragging her, and she appears to have one arm over his shoulder. Either way she’s lucky.
Why do you think that the law comes down so hard on those who successfully defend themselves? a/l/a George Zimmerman .
If he is a Liberal, it will take more than that to convert him. What he probably do is ask himself what did he do to the shooter to make him so angry.
Fortunately, no policeman’s delicate ego was bruised. Yeah, I know, there were no policemen present. But police egos are the most important issue in modern law enforcement.
All of the parish district courts with jurisdiction over felony criminal matters in Louisiana are "state level" courts. New Orleans is a bit weird, with the civil and criminal courts separated - but Orleans Criminal District Court is not a "city" court.
There was something that Jindal did to get cases out of the hands of these judges. I’ll check on it and get back to you.
(it’s not hard to remember a name like yours)
This POS needs to be hung by his feet and fed to starving pit bull dogs.
“It was a mircle! The thug tried to shoot him in the head 3 times, but the Tec 9 jammed.”
It would have been more of a miracle if the Tec-9 had not jammed. The operator has to be smarter than the gun, and with a Tec-9 that’s setting the bar low to start with.
Perhaps we should feed Little Miss Social Justice Warrior to those fun fellows at ISIS...
He should get awarded a "CCW For Life", no questions asked.
We need a guy like that carrying at all times.
Jam was probably due to limp-wristed hold during hood-approved laid-over shooting position...
