Muslim terrorists opened fire on an upscale hotel on Friday in the city of Bamako, the capital of the western African state of Mali.

The jihadists used automatic weapons according to security sources, and apparently have taken people hostage in the Radisson Blu Hotel. Some reports indicate that at least three people have died in the attack.

The luxury hotel, which has 190 rooms, is a popular site for Western officials according to French-language media.

According to the French RFI radio, the attack was launched by three assailants who entered the hotel with diplomatic cars.

Security forces have set up a cordon around the building, and a security source told AFP that "it's all happening on the seventh floor, jihadists are firing in the corridor."

BBC: How did gunmen enter the hotel?

There are several accounts of what happened in Bamako this morning:

A witness in Mali’s capital city, Bamako, suggests the attackers had diplomatic plates on their car.

“They have come this way while I was sweeping in the yard,” said the hotel gardener.

“They were in car with a diplomatic license plate. They were masked. At the gate of the hotel, the guard stopped them and they started firing and we fled.”

But another witness report, suggests that a vehicle forced its way through the security barrier at the hotel:

“I don’t know how many [attackers there were]. They were between five and 13. They injured three security guards who were at the gate of the hotel.

“These security guards are from a security firm, they are not soldiers.”

A form of the Arabic phrase Allahu Akbar “God is greater than everything”. That’s their real meaning and purpose. Giving them authority to kill in the name of their god. Their god is not the same as my God. My God does not promote killing. If you ask me, their god is the devil.

BBC:

Qatari Al Jazeera TV has identified the group holding a number of people hostage in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Mali as the “Ansar al-Din (supporters of religion)” group.

The channel’s correspondent in Mali described Ansar al-Din as an “extremist military group that seeks to implement Islamic Sharia in Mali”.

I thought the new instructions in these firefights was to try to run away, not lay still and play dead.

We need to let 100,000 Mali Muslims into the US, and give them free housing, free food, free health care, free phones, free voter cards, and free money.

That will convince them to abandon their terrorist ways.

Obama akbar! He has a solution for every problem!

The Mali population is 55% unaffiliated Muslim according to wiki. Only been to one Muslim majority country in my life. Jordan in 1996. Likely my first and last visit to a Muslim majority nation.

Clearly “luxury hotel” is a very low bar in that part of the world.

Good luck to the security forces and hostages.

No one could have expected to have weak kneed president like Jimmy Carter, until the guy we have now.

This guy is going to spin for the next 18 months. Trump will be the only salvation for us. Hopefully, on a Trump/Cruz ticket.

This is truly turning out to be a third world war.

Was the tip-off the dirt road?

I can imagine the terrorists leaving alone the passed-out drunk expats who will sleep thru the whole thing. “Yeah, man I was there”.
