The parenting trend of building self-esteem has taken a dark turn in recent years. Studies show that we are raising narcissists, with all this unwarranted praise creating a sense of entitlement in children. But even the ones who deserve praise for their accomplishments can be ruined by too much of the stuff as is evidenced by the great fall of UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, who not only lost her title on Saturday night, but also lost many fans who admired her.

This happened right after she announced her admiration for Bernie. So I enjoyed the loss and I don’t follow this women fighting crap much at all.
Just something about a commie getting hit in the face that you have to like.
Someone is drawing a lot of heavy social lessons out of one UFC fight where the girl got her head kicked-in.
The example of the social media post in that article is a prime example of poor sportsmanship to me.
Whoever wrote that is a classless moron.
That being said, the true measure of a champion is found in that champion’s defeat. That is when character is tested. How does a person come back from having their image of themselves shattered?
Some such champions handle that type of adversity very well.
I offer Benson Henderson as an example.
He was another seemingly unbeatable champion, until of course, he was, beaten.
I was not really a fan of his while he was champ. He just seemed overly physically dominant compared to his opponents.
But in watching him try to climb the mountain again, I have become a fan of Smooth. Especially after seeing him lose two fights in a row, which never happened to him previously, and yet still he climbs, and fights like a man possessed.
Benson Henderson is a good man. Will Ronda Rousey show the same mettle? I don’t know, it remains to be seen, but I have to be honest and say that I have my doubts at this point.
And as far as the social media smacktalkers go... knock it off. Quit piling on. You are reflecting poorly on yourselves. Let her do what she’s going to do or not do.
She is good, a talented fighter in some areas and not so good in others.
I told my wife before her match that she was coming into it with way too much arrogance and had bought too much into her own hype and the sunshine pumped up her skirts.
Holm, on the other hand, was pretty reserved and basically only noted that Rousey was very good, a dangerous opponent, but she could, like anyone else, be beaten.
She received a significant attitude adjustment.
Was Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr., aka Muhammad Ali's antics the result of Narcissistic Parenting?
He was the "Greatest", "Prettiest", "Smartest" all while taunting his opponent, the media and just being an obnoxious load-mouth.
It's all part of the show and the box-office!
I like Rhonda, even with her Bernie endorsement.
I will not take part in taking cheap shots at her.
The rematch will present more pre-fight trash talk, more lip-service and even Bigger Box-Office!
“This happened right after she announced her admiration for Bernie.”
Her support of a communist alone disqualifies her as a role model.
This article is a bit of stretch, all you had happen was some young person buy into a little too much of their own press.... Got a little big headed and got smacked down.
Most of us have had the same moments in our lives at some point, hers just happened to be a little later in life and a lot more public.
I also think much of what he gripes about is just simple pre fight/pre sporting event hype build up. The folks around it encourage it for more ppv sales and money... so while its juvenile behavior, I suspect the whole shoving match, etc crap was pure theater/staged.
My son and his new wife came over last weekend to help...along with taking all of the accrued childhood stuff that he may have wanted to rescue.
My son had received some of these feel-good participation trophies when he was a kid. I aksed if he wanted them for any sentimental reason.
He said, "Hell no. They're garbage. They were garbage then and they are garbage now. Toss 'em."
Kinda put a nice grin on my face.
All of that aside, I think Rhonda will win the rematch and there will be a definitive rubber match in 2017.
Exactly, karma got her big time. Announces her support for communism and Holly Holm cleaned Rouseys commie clock, so much so that it looks like she will never fight again.

The look on her face before the fight was almost comical. She had such a puss on her face. Maybe she’ll learn not to fight with too much anger and emotion. Those two things can drain you pretty fast.
I don’t know much about this lady or this sport, but Apollo Creed comes to mind as comparison.
The only one he took to his apartment with him was a Pinewood Derby trophy from Cub Scouts. That's because he worked on that car himself for weeks, whittling it down from a block of wood, designing it and painting it himself, and it won first prize. So it's the only trophy he felt was truly earned.

Meh. It’s just sports/entertainment. These antics and tactics have been going on pre-mma and throughout the entire history of boxing. Heroes become villains, villains become heroes. It’s the nature of the sport.
I remember being a huge Tyson fan when he was “Kid Dynamite”. And then rooting for Buster Douglas.
The biggest lesson the kiddies will learn is that their parents were pretty cool for letting them stay up past bedtime to see the fight.
Apollo won the first one. :)
She arrogantly refused to touch gloves with Holly Holm just before the fight. Pride goes before a fall-— it was good for her to lose the fight and gain a lesson.
