Towson U. president signs students' demands after 8-hour protest in his office

A group of about two dozen black Towson University students brought a list of 13 demands to the school's interim President Timothy Chandler's office Wednesday and reviewed them with him until after midnight, when he pledged to address them.

The protest focused on increasing the number of tenured faculty members of color, adding cultural competency courses and creating a no-tolerance policy on racial, sexual and homophobic epithets with consequences to include "potential expulsion."

Deb Moriarty, the university's vice president for student affairs, and other administrators helped Chandler review and revise the students' demands for more than eight hours. Together, the group went line-by-line, editing the wording of each demand until Chandler agreed to sign his name and commit to working toward the goals early Thursday morning.

It was part of a nationwide #StudentBlackOut movement, following students at the University of Missouri protesting and eventually forcing the school's president to resign over his failure to address race issues on campus.

Too damned close to home. In 2014 I was entertainment (square dance and line dance) for a Friday afternoon activity at Towson.

This is SEIU/AFL-CIO/ACP/ Etc Etc grabbing a hold of institutional education in a last push for the apocalypse...what I mean is very simple, Conservatives and good natured capitalism will be declared hate speech and banned. Bill Ayres, “new way of thinking” is being mainstreamed for good. Who is pushing back? No one.

Perfect retribution: White students/ parents should BOYCOTT ALL OF THESE UNIVERSITIES. Let’s see how long this nonsense lasts with no revenue.

White students/parents should boycott...

They won't have to have a boycott. Parents who aspire to raise decent law abiding young people who don't submit to the demands of bullies and racists won't let their children attend. There are plenty of good options for online college education.

Those who are going to lose the most are decent students from bad neighborhoods. Those college campuses provided their way out of their environment. Now, these college campuses will become extensions of urban combat zones.

“cultural competency courses”

Does this mean we have to learn ebonics? Or how about one called “How Not To Get Your A$$ Kicked By A Black Mob”. Evidently it’s an 8 hour course.

This is not being done spontaneously at the grass roots level. It is all being coordinated and with the approval of Obama and his henchmen at Service Employees International Union. Would not be surprised to see George Soros involved as well.

"Who is pushing back? No one."

I had this discussion with a retired college professor last night. His synopsis is everyone is in fear of speaking the truth because of the fear of loosing your job and being called an "ist" and you are destroyed. He saw this in from the late 60's on when colleges started knuckling under to demands and he was horrified. It continues.

What disturbs me is the speech demands. if someone says something offensive, you can not choose to not engage, refute them, challenge them, etc etc., the offenders have the freedom to be idiots or boorish, we always had them and always will, they are trying to change nature if you will, you can't . Conversely do I get to have a "safe zone" from disgusting RAP with lyrics that are I can't even type here on FR? How do you now challenge these folks to debate these issues in a true debate format? You can't!

They are creating zones of Totalitarianism and they are the Premier of that State...

Yes, by all means, let’s keep dumbing down a college education by knuckling under to the demands of the biggest idiots and most mediocre clods on campus.

Hey, what the heck, Dad doesn’t mind spending 25k a year for four years for an utterly meaningless and useless piece of paper.

And it couldn’t possibly be more clear that society has no use whatsoever for educated leaders.

Shouldn’t there be a “whites only” safe space at colleges so that those who “identify as white” have a place to get away from the constant offensive haranguing, harassment and bullying to which white students are regularly subjected by racist students and faculty members “of color” who threaten and intimidate them and make them feel bad about their melanin-deficient skin tone?

FREE COLLEGE EDUCATION for everyone will remove the economic effect of a boycott.....at least until it, along with all the other “free s**t” finally does bankrupt the Country.

8 hour protest?

My gawd...that must’ve been horrendous. How could the admin possibly have hung on that long?

Did they check to make sure the ‘protesters’ are really students? They may just be outside agitators a la the ‘occupy’ movement.

My response if I was the administration? “Americans have a Constitutional right to free speech. No college or student can overrule that. However, no one has the right to make other people listen or to be disruptive. Anyone caught being disruptive will lose any scholarships. If a student is caught being disruptive a second time they will be expelled.”

Very nice. I would just add one more line: "Now GTF out of my office or you will be the first to experience the new policy."
