and, who hangs up their phone while it is still against your head? He might have been inside the blast pressure wave and killed the phone when he was knocked down.

The pressure wave knocked him down. I did not say the wave was the direct result of the damage to the phone.

Again, who hangs up their smart phone while it is still up against your head? The damage could come from any number of things like his falling on it. But apparently, you are more enlightened as a shrapnel expert.
