Officials: No, states can't reject Syrian refugees
Washington Post ^ | November 16, 2015 | By Pamela Constable

More than a dozen governors have said in the wake of the Paris attacks that they do not want their states to accept Syrian refugees.

But officials at several American refugee resettlement agencies said Monday that state and local officials cannot physically prevent refugees from being resettled in their areas. They said that all refugees who arrive in the United States must first be approved for legal entry by the federal government after a lengthy screening process and that their housing arrangements are made through long-term contracts and relationships with city, county and state governments.

“Governors and state officials do not have the capability to prevent a refugee who is here and admitted lawfully to the U.S. from residing in their state. It is not something they can do,” said Lucy Carrigan, a spokeswoman for the International Rescue Committee. “There is a close collaboration with governors and mayors and community leaders about the capacity of the area for refugees and where they can go, but once they have legal status, you cannot impede their transit between different states.”

A total of about 1,900 Syrian refugees have been resettled in the United States in the past two years, all of them brought directly from camps and settlements in countries surrounding Syria. Carrigan and others said none of them had been part of the wave of migrants coming through Europe. The 1,900 are a tiny fraction of the 200,000 living near Syria who have been approved for resettlement in the United States. The International Rescue Committee, based in New York, has resettled about 250 of them. . .

Marin County, San Francisco, Hyannis Port, Martha’s Vineyard, New Haven, Scarsdale, Hyde Park, Portland, Seattle, Honolulu, Nantucket, Upper Manhattan are all full of liberals and they would make good company for the refugees. I don’t expect Speaker Ryan or Majority Leader McConnell to speak up; after all, they can’t win on THIS issue or apparently, much of anything else. Plus, if they speak up, they won’t e invited to play golf with the President.

“.....I don’t see how it can be stopped”.

We don’t have border patrols between individual states. We don’t check *papers* of individuals as they cross state lines.

How would any one state enforce a no immigration stance? Not talking over the top rhetoric ... asking a straight question. How would immigration enforcement be handled between states who say yea and states who say nay?

Admin officials have already said there were too many “refugees” to do any screening. And absent any way of verifying anything “refugees” have to say, screening is impossible on its face.

This should be enough to:

A: Precipitate a Constitutional Crisis

or:

B: Precipitate Rebellion

One or the other. Or “government by the consent of the governed” is finished forever.

I don’t think the FBI has enough personnel to force us to take them.

Ha , if the new FBI is anything like the trailer I have seen for the show Quantico they are all metro-homo-drama queens.

All that has to happen is that the various governors be willing to pardon everyone who shoots and kills the invaders.

It started on January 20, 2009. We’re losing.

Probably legally true. The agricultural check stations on California’s borders were originally set up to keep the dust bowl refugees out but the court eventually threw it out for its clear consititutional problems. Of course the refugees in that case were citizens but the clear implication was the the state cannot control its borders although it can regulate potentially dangerous commerce (like pot now).

So this potentially dangerous human problem is entirely in Obama’s lap (our gutless congress will follow him).

“200,000 living near Syria who have been approved for resettlement in the United States. “

Oh, but $h!tface told us that there would be at least 10,000.
That’s the number the media grabbed, reported and repeated.

"What are the feds going to do. Throw them at us at gun point."

If that was not part of their original plan, the people must make them do it that way anyway.

Nice snippets for the nightly news cycle.

What is “American refugee resettlement agency”? Is this gov’t or one of the phony charity agencies that get a lot of federal funds to accept immigrants/migrants/refugees?

Also, nothing is impossible when it comes to the gov’t.
