How a liberal vegan environmentalist made the switch from climate proponent to climate skeptic
/wattsupwiththat.com ^ | 11/14/2015 | David Seigel

On October 16, I launched a 9,000 word essay on my conversion from a climate-change believer to skeptic. Anthony liked it and decided to run a short summary on WUWT.

That page now has over 450 comments, the essay has been viewed over 50k times, and it has had over 9k reads. It has led to discussions across the web, and, via the survey at the end of the essay, has led to a surprising 46% conversion rate of people becoming climate skeptics. These are small numbers, but they are also small steps toward an important goal. My essay is capable of reaching liberals, challenging their assumptions, and getting them to change their views.

The essay prompted a group of global-warming enthusiasts to write a long rebuttal essay, titled Climate Change is Real, and Important.

The real question is, when you finished your essay, were you so hungry that you went out and ordered a ribeye steak? Have no fear of the Glow-bull Denier Enforcement Sqaud lurking in you doorway.

That must be a first. Although, I admit Milton Friedman's Free to Choose knocked any residual liberal tendencies out of me.

It is a guy named David Seigel. His essay is quite well done. I admire him for having to courage to go against his ultra-left caste.

Why in the world would you guess that? Do thoughts of him just fill your head 24 hours a day? What would you say to people that guessed Trump?

Get a real life.

His article presents such clear thought, logic and open-mindedness it’s a wonder he’s a liberal in other areas. It does include a gratuitous slam on Rush, however; either residual lefty wooly-headedness, or maybe an attempt to establish his bona-fides with fellow progressives on whom he’s trying to shine the light of truth in things climate-related.

I didn't see the Limbaugh bashing. I was reading quickly and missed it. But this guy probably has never listened to one minute of Rush Limbaugh. I wonder if he would be surprised to learn that Limbaugh called "Global Warming" a hoax many years ago. But it is so rare to see an honest progressive, or maybe soon to be former-progressive, that I was struck with his clarity and desire to undercover the truth. This fellow has promise.

Here’s the paragraph in question, about 60% into the article:

“Aside from a pile of leaked and embarrassing emails in 2009, and the chair of the IPCC stepping down under charges of sexually harassing a female researcher, the PR machine is working smoothly. Michael Mann has 30,000 Twitter followers (I’d love to know how he got them). The New York Times encourages the use of Nazi/genocidal language in describing skeptics. The word “denier” lumps legitimate skeptics with wing nuts like Rush Limbaugh. Even the Pope has shuffled into the CO2 spotlight, hurting the very people he vows to protect. James Hansen is now at Columbia University promoting a huge decarbonization campaign. The goal is now to produce a climate deal in Paris later this year, which now seems likely, but will probably be impossible to implement.”

Pretty small potatoes, I’ll admit, in comparison to all the reasonable stuff in that paragraph, but Rush takes plenty of pipe for stuff he doesn’t deserve and as you point out, generally from people who don’t listen to him ever. Now I’ll admit Rush’s knowledge of fundamental science is pretty weak, but he has a terrific BS detector, and he’s got enough sense to get his technical advice from people like Roy Spencer, who are very credible. And again, as you indicated, Rush stuck his neck out on this one really early, all the more reason why he shouldn’t be crapped on now.

Thank you. I read it. Very interesting, but no surprises. The scientist being interviewed sounds like one of a vanishing breed: a real scientist. The "sea-level rising" meme is also a complete fraud. Is there any part of the left-wing catechism which is not phony?

Well, 'peak oil' was true... and Club of Rome - and the Population Bomb - and Nuclear Winter.. oh wait, none of that was true either... OK - all phony... (thought you would like that article Blennos - glad you did.

1. I woke up a smart ass this morning and pulled that guess out of my arse. 2. Actually I think of food 24hrs a day. 3. I would have guessed Trump but I live in Vegas and his people would have hunted me down. 4.I have a real life but it is also fun aggravating people such as yourself.
