Hillary Clinton’s claim that she tried to join the Marines

"He looks at me and goes, 'Um, how old are you. And I said, 'Well I am 26, I will be 27.' And he goes, 'Well, that is kind of old for us.' And then he says to me, and this is what gets me, 'Maybe the dogs will take you,' meaning the Army."

-Former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton, speaking at a breakfast, Manchester, N.H., Nov. 10, 2015

One Clinton story that has often been greeted with skepticism is her claim, first made in 1994, that she once tried to join the Marines in 1975. On the campaign trail, she brought up the story again.

Can this story be confirmed?

The Facts

Clinton first told this story while addressing a lunch on Capitol Hill honoring military women, about 17 months after becoming first lady:

"You're too old, you can't see and you're a woman," Mrs. Clinton said she was told. “Maybe the dogs would take you," she recalled the recruiter saying. (Actually the military slang is "dogfaces.")

"It was not a very encouraging conversation,” she said. "I decided maybe I'll look for another way to serve my country."

It's fair to say The New York Times account, written by then-reporter Maureen Dowd, was highly skeptical. Dowd noted:

I got it, how about serving your country by revealing all the secrets that come across your desk and collecting graft from other countries and corporations.

But, but, she told all of her biographers through the 90s that she applied to be an astronaut. Or did she forget that?

Marines

Do you guys remember LADY X?

She was a Freeper and a Marine in the 50s.

We used to correspond on and off this list.

I believe she past close to 10 years ago. Her pictures and her stories about being a female Marine in the 50s were amazing like her. Miss her. xo

"The dogs"??? since when has anyone ever called The Army that?

WWII, maybe. My Dad taught me this at his knee:

We asked all the doggies to come to Tulagi
But General MacArthur said "No."
When asked for the reason, "It isn't the season,"
Besides, they have no USO."

There is a Wiki reference to a Cheyenne organization of that name. Beyond that, not much.

OK guys! Let's lay off Hillary!

Now pardon me for a minute while I go to the eyewash station.

It is entirely possible that she did try to join the Marines. Is it her fault that couldn't recognize her genius and turned down her offer to be their commander? < / sarcasm >

Lol! At least Gomer's loyalties were to the US, not the Maoist Black Panthers during the Vietnam War.

November 22, 1970 -- During a fund-raising tour for GI deserters, Vietnam Veterans Against the War and the Black Panthers, Jane Fonda is quoted in the Detroit Free Press as telling a University of Michigan audience:

"I would think that if you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would someday become communist," and "The peace proposal of the Viet Cong is the only honorable, just, possible way to achieve peace in Vietnam."

From the Maoist Internationist Movement:
[1960s/original] Black Panther Party [BPP] Archives
From the article: REVOLUTIONARY HEROES

"On May 1st, May Day [1969], the day of the gigantic Free Huey rally, two of Alioto's top executioners vamped on the brothers from the Brown Community who were attending to their own affairs. These brothers, who are endowed with the revolutionary spirit of the Black Panther Party defended themselves from the racist pig gestapo [the police].

Pig Joseph Brodnik received his just reward with a big hole in the chest. Pig Paul McGoran got his in the mouth which was not quite enough to off him.

The revolutionary brothers escaped the huge swarm of pigs with dogs, mace, tanks and helicopters, proving once again that "the spirit of the people is greater than the man's technology."

To these brothers the revolutionary people of racist America want to say, by your revolutionary deed you are heroes, and that you are always welcome to our camp."

If his or her lips are moving they are lying .

We’re supposed to believe a licensed attorney who purportedly served on the Watergate committee sought to enlist in the Marines.

Nice try, PIAPS. Did you take hostile fire when you entered that hot zone known as the Marine recruiting office?

I would think that if Fonda had a clue about what communism was, she would have at least realized that praying on your knees wouldn't be allowed under the atheistic state-controlled hell that communism commonly creates.

I can remember the one I went to, easily.

Boise, Idaho for me. Can't remember the address, but the street was Overland Blvd, and IIRC across from an open space, like a park, or golf course. I just looked on Google Maps, and then street view, and sure enough, that's where I remember it being nearly 30 years ago.
