Smoking would be prohibited in public housing homes nationwide under a proposed federal rule to be announced on Thursday, a move that would affect nearly one million households and open the latest front in the long-running campaign to curb unwanted exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke.
The ban, by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, would also require that common areas and administrative offices on public housing property be smoke-free. ~ snip

Smoking cost money. It's absurd society should subside their rent if they have disposable income.

Cue Nelson: “HA-HA!!!”
No doubt smokers will be persecuted worse than gang-bound drug pushing thugs.

While I do not enjoy being around cigarette & cigar smoke, I predict that this idea “will not end well”.
To: Drango
That’s RACIST.
A smoking ban in public housing would have a disproportionate impact on minorities.

In 15 years or less the buildings will be wrecked and should be torn down.
Not caused by second hand smoke.

Good luck enforcing that. How’s the ban on drugs in public housing working out?

They will ban “smoking” but limit it only to tobacco.
Tobacco smoke...BAD! Pot smoke...Good.
They try to ban pot smoking everyone in the welfare housing project would either burn the place down or leave.

“Smoking cost money.” LOL, so does liquor, drugs, strip joints, etc, they haven’t gotten a handle on that either.
The real deal here has nothing to do with subsidizing rents...they’ll do that all day long with your money and smile doing it.
What they’re going to fail at doing here is reducing heathcare costs for their always dependent voter base. They’re doing everything they can to increase dependency. It makes perfect sense they’re trying to make each one cost less to keep that way so they can afford to take care of more voters.

Drug use is rampant in Section 8 housing. Which will the government go after first? The smokers or, say, the crack dealers?
