Ted Cruz proposes eliminating Energy, HUD, Commerce, Education, IRS
The American Thinker ^ | November 11, 2015 | Ed Straker

Posted on 11/11/2015 12:01:29 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

It's sad watching most Republican candidates promise to make cuts in federal spending without ever actually telling us where the cuts would occur...

All that changed last night, however, when Ted Cruz called for the elimination of the Departments of Energy, Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Commerce, and Education, as well as the IRS. The liberal media will be focusing on the fact that he mentioned eliminating Commerce twice. I prefer to focus on the merits of what he has announced.

The Department of Energy. We have a Department of Energy that generates no energy. Instead, the DOE distributes nearly $30 billion (as of 2012) to research "clean" energy.....

The IRS. The IRS has been hopelessly politicized, going after conservative groups and now given additional authority under Obamacare. With Cruz's 10% flat tax proposal that will eliminate loopholes, the need for tax compliance will be radically reduced....

Housing and Urban Development. The mission of the federal government is not to provide housing....

Department of Education. We have a department of education that does not educate a single student. Instead, it subsidizes college loans, which allows private schools to charge sky-high tuitions....

Department of Commerce. The Department of Commerce's main function seems to be subsidizing big businesses....

As of this writing, Cruz is the only candidate to name specific departments and agencies he would cut, so in my book, he's the only one serious about cutting government spending.

This goes a long way toward doing just that.

You pull their source of money and power.

Go Ted, I am longing for a true conservative to be far out in front.

Threaten to pull their money and power, and their "mechanic" is liable to pull a trigger.

There's a case to be made that, if he wanted to do this, he ought to have waited until he was in office and then just done it.

You can bet that someone made a phone call last night, and someone else is doing some preliminary planning for Cruz to have an accident or just get shot.

Yup. Ted Cruz is lockstep with almost every ideal I have learned or grown into as a proud Constitutional Conservative. I can’t think of any muck-ups he’s given us since he came on the stage as a true conservative those five or so years ago. If he keeps up talking like this, he’s got a helluva great chance at clinching the presidency. Rush Limbaugh must be thinking much the same thing. He always says the conservatives should choose the most conservative person that is also electable. Cruz is definitely that guy.

There is something to be said about that approach, Scott Walker understood it and employed it (when his policies worked, he was recalled and won, and then was elected again in his 2nd run for governor. But the down side is that it's too easy to twist their positions.

He forgot to mention reining in the EPA, an anchor around the neck of the economy.

I agree with you. Having declared himself, Cruz has become the mortal enemy of the fed bureaucracy. He should have kept his intentions quiet. This is a very bad strategic error, to let on like this.

Just like his idea of getting 100,000 pastors to back him to defund Planned Parenthood...How'd that work out? He couldn't even rally enough people to get behind him on something as in your face horrible as that.

Ted Cruz is a weenie that likes to hear himself talk.

I keep asking Trump supporters the following questions, but they either leave the thread or don’t answer.

Are you a supporter of unions?

And/or do you support government healthcare?

My husband and I are Trump supporters.

My husband does not like Ted Cruz, but even he cheered several times at things Ted Cruz said.

Getting rid of those burdens on polite society will save so much money(and aggravation).

I can’t wait for all the fear, uncertainty and dread awaiting the left come Jan ‘17 like we’ve had to deal with every day since ‘09. Let them eat catshit breakfast tacos for 8+ years.

“Ted Cruz: If you were forced to pick a winner, it would probably be Cruz. He picked the right fights-with Kasich and Paul. He gave a dynamite explanation of how illegal immigration impacts wage growth and was generally impressive. With each passing debate he looks more like a finalist.”

Ted Cruz did not mention the worst of the worst which is the EPA. This place needs to be bulldozed then nuked from orbit just to be sure.

That’s a biggy.

When you stop and think about it, what agencies would you not eliminate, other than the Department of Defense?

EPA falls under regulatory reform, and that means a total workover..to include his proposals to reinstitute the Reagan devised committee that will look into every one of these regulatory burdens as well as every proposed new one, in terms of cost to the economy verses it’s effectiveness and need.

It’s all part of the Cruz position statements.

I think everyone wants clean air and water, But the EPA has gone far beyond that.
