He risked his life in the Civil War. I would say that he would be speechless and bet would not have hired the likes of the professors at Bowdoin.

It was to get women out of the home to be taxed and controlled and so that the state had access to the minds of the young

You give the feminist agenda too much credit.

This "access to the minds of the young" was just an unfortunate result of feminism.

I witnessed the birth of the so-called feminist movement in the late '60's- early 70's as a young adult and experienced my 1st wife hearing Helen Reddy's "I am Woman" and deciding that I was a male chauvinist pig, burned her bra and left me for "the movement".("Hey, honey, what-did-I-do?")

The feminist movement was about equality and equal pay; the result of the wife working outside the home and not being the primary caregiver of the children was ultimately what led to the mass indoctrination by the state of the young minds full of mush.

....apparently math wasn't a part of her education...

A+B = C
D+E = F
G+H = I
J+K = L

C+F = M
I+L = N

M+N = O
O+....Oh No... :(

...game over...

I think she is going further than this by arguing that our individual reproductive preferences, however “rational”, must be sacrificed in favor of the preferences of the state (presumably defined by elites such as Professor Conly). That's a different argument than the “behavioral” one in which people who think they want two or more children when they are in their 20s and 30s may later regret having had more than one child, so the government should step in early in the process and, with a one-child law, prevent them from doing something regrettable.

Inevitably, she is saying one doesn't have the right to the comforts of a large family in one's old age - I am only 53, but I can already tell you that my four kids and 4 grandkids (so far)are going to be my primary care givers as I get old - even as I and my siblings (and our respective children and grandchildren) care for my mother (my father has since passed on).

Social security in the way God designed - And that is far better care at far less cost than anything the state will provide.

I would venture to say that one child with one grandchild would be hard pressed to honor the father and mother of a House in the hectic world of modern living. I know it in fact, as even with myself and one sister still living near enough to matter (a total of 9 people including children), with my other 2 siblings providing support with frequent visits and financial help from afar (another 10 people including children), it is awfully hard to devote the time my mother needs to care for her and the big house. As she gets older, one of us will have to move in with her to provide full time care - But we are all very committed to the idea that she will be able to die in her own house surrounded by her family - Unless her care becomes too intensive, that is what will be true.

And she blossoms in the fertile ground of her family, and blesses us, one and all, with her wisdom and love. She is pouring out into her great grandchildren the very same thing she poured out into me. Take her away from that - Put her in assisted living, where visits become infrequent and the day-to-day interaction with her family becomes muted, where her innate authority, autonomy and self control become removed, and I fear she will not do anywhere near as well. It seems as though once they hit the home, they don't last too long.

So in conclusion, I would submit that this OP and it's socialist dream are in complete and grievous error- The purpose and promise of family is made null, and cannot compare to the loving directive our Father laid down:

Exodus 20:12(KJV) Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

“”the idea that people should limit the number of children they have to just one is not, I would argue, a bad one, for the Chinese or for the rest of us.”

By 2030, half the population in China will be 50 years of age or older. The stupid ChiComm apes have aborted their future. By that same date, half the population of India will be 30 years of age or younger. Guess which Asian country will be an economic and military powerhouse well into the 21st century.

Private equity firms have been abandoning China since 2011. Anyone interested in investing in the BRIC countries is targeting India. Today, broadband companies operating in India simply can’t keep up with demand.

Sadly, Bowdoin College was the home of one Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, who won the Medal of Honor for his role in saving the Union flank at Gettysburg.

How far that institution has fallen ...
