TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot XI Planning Thread
10/27/15 | TheMom

Posted on 10/27/2015 1:13:00 PM PDT by TheMom

The planning stages for TCMS XI are in the works. At this point the plan is to hold the event in October 2016. (Yes, I know that is a looonnnggg way away!) The range we are considering is Hiciksville Range, in Gatesville. The closest lodging we could find is in Whitney.

We have already had one recon trip, which was not very productive due to heavy rains. The entire recon crew checked out one of the places we are considering staying. The majority of us fell in love with the place, even though it was a gloomy weekend. It made for some fun joking about being the perfect place to film a horror movie, especially with the creepy & trashy road to the resort. We all agreed that the pavilion was awesome; it is big enough to hold all of us without bumping into each other.

NYTexan & BuckeyeTexan checked out the other place. I liked it from looking at their website, but was not impressed with the pictures that Buckeye sent me. She & I are going to do another recon so that I can see it in person. There is also one more location we will look at. The one negative for both of those places is the size of their pavilions ~ we need lots of room to move & mingle.

Next week Eaker, humblegunner and I are going to Hicksville Range for a look see and discuss pricing.

Stay tuned for more info . . .

Hey PE, my memory is not the best. Were you Air Force? Our 2nd granddaughter is on her 2nd full day of Air Force boot camp and Granny here is looking for somebody to enlighten me as to what her first day mighta been like? My faulty memory tells me you were Air Force and Mrs Peanut Gallery was Navy but set me straight if I got it wrong.

Just two more weeks!!!

I’d like to get a head count of folks coming to the shoot.

Update on “What We Gonna Eat?”:

Thursday night - pick a place in town.
Friday night - Chicken spaghetti, mac ~n~ cheese, pie and whatever else someone wants to contribute.
Saturday lunch - Charlies BBQ, roasted chicken, pinto beans, potato salad and cole slaw.
Saturday night - finger foods & such.
All nights - Margaritas & Fireball!

We’ve been asked to bring our dart board, that will happen if I get approval from Cherokee Village owners. I’m also bringing our Scrabble game.

There is a grocery store a few miles from Cherokee Village in the event you forgot to pack something.

I’m getting excited about seeing all of you!!

Will be at the shoot and other times. 2 for the shoot. Probably my husband will sit home and I’ll come hangout. He *might* join supper one night.

I’d like to add that there’s a wonderful local grocery store nearby with a butcher shop that custom cuts steaks for anybody interested. It is in the opposite direction from town from Cherokee. Bonanza Grocery. This is a shameless plug as its owned by friends but it is a great place to get meat.

I’ll be paying attention to the count. I plan to bring banana cream pie, coconut cream pie and chocolate cream pie. Last time Lloyd and I were at the shoot we had so much food I am planning 1 pie each flavor...but, will make more if needed. Or other kinds if requested.

I plan on making up for the shoot, but not sure about Friday evening. I haven’t made reservations to stay anywhere yet. Any ideas on that?

Saturday lunch - Charlies BBQ, roasted chicken, pinto beans, potato salad and cole slaw.

I bought two briquets yesterday from HEB two days ago. $1.95 a pound and a real bargain. They are in my freezer now but will take them out about a week before the shoot. I like to let them age in the refrigerator side for about a week. It makes them better. Chicken and beans and coleslaw are from HEB.

I am looking very much forward to the shoot and seeing old friends. If someone wants to bring other side dishes that is good but I will have enough food for all.

ps A couple of shoots back I found money in my truck from Freeper Shooters for my cooking and food. Please do not do this in the future. I can afford it. My life is good. El Roy never did and I will not either. The company of of the Houston Gang is payment in full. See you at the shoot.

cpdiii Charlie Dunifer the cook.

Charlie - I’ll make the pinto beans for Saturday range lunch. BTW - I always tell everyone that ask, they don’t owe anything for the range lunch (when you’re cooking) and please don’t offend you by offering money. ;-)

Thanks for your ever gracious friendly reminder.

I do not think that we will be able to make the trip this year. Not definite yet but leaning heavily that way:-(

Will know for sure in a few days.

Best Regards

Thank you for the kind offer but events of the last few days have conspired to make me have to cancel my trip to Texas this year.

I will be busy that week putting in a new ceiling in my kitchen:-(
