CHICAGO (WLS) -- Seven weeks after the mysterious shooting death of Fox Lake police lieutenant Joe Gliniewicz, there may be a solution on the horizon.

Officially, the public knows nothing more about why Lt. Joe Gliniewicz died than the day it happened. The police official in charge of that investigation tells the I-Team that conclusions in the case are upcoming, within a few weeks. In an interview with the I-Team, task force commander George Filenko says the case may not be closed until near the end of November.

I am not optimistic that they have been telling the truth, or know what they are doing.

Never been to SI. This case, they originally said it was 2 white & 1 black guy, who did it. That sounded odd. Then rumors it was suicide, & talk he was involved in an internal police investigation, then a former cop was threatening people involved & possibly spreading rumors online about the case.

Sounds like a movie. Certainly taking long enough to get info. Interesting case.

This story has made no sense from the start. Has there ever been a Police Lt. that went on a foot chase after one individual let alone three?

The only problem with suicide, is “How did he dispose of his pistol afterward?”

Good point. Was it determined he was shot with his own gun?

I don’t know if he was shot with his own gun, but it was repeatedly reported that his service pistol was missing.

And this is a ‘good trick’ if a suicide: “...was found in a Fox Lake field, dead from two gunshot wounds...”

I guess he could have shot himself in the arm or leg before doing a fatal shot. I guess we’ll have to wait for whatever is released in the future.

This story from WGN TV says he was shot with his own weapon:

http://wgntv.com/2015/10/01/9-unidentified-dna-samples-found-where-fox-lake-officer-died/

“The lead investigator revealed on Thursday the fallen officer was shot twice with his own weapon, and there were signs of a struggle at the scene. The first shot knocked him out, and the second one is believed to have killed him. No word, though, on how the gun went off.”

Was this the case where they alleged he “self responded” or reported this incident himself?

Thanks. Now I recall more reported details of this case.

Very odd. This was the one with no known body camera, no dash cam. Did they ever reveal anything about his personal life or personal issues?

Thank you. I was back there in the fall of 2008 and it was totally closed then. I saw on the Ray Barracks Facebook page that the Hesse State Govt has purchased part of the post for housing middle eastern “refugees.”
