Trump: My immigration plans would have prevented 9/11
CBS ^ | Oct 18 2015 | CBS

Donald Trump says that if he had been president in 2001, his immigration policies would have kept terrorists from attacking the World Trade Center on September 11.

"I am extremely, extremely tough on illegal immigration. I'm extremely tough on people coming into this country," Trump said on Fox News Sunday. "I believe that if I were running things, I doubt those families would have -- I doubt that those people would have been in the country."

Saw this in WaPo earlier; the headline starts the lie, and the story pushes it.

Trump DID NOT say 9/11 WOULDN’T have happened; he said it MIGHT NOT have happened.

That’s a HUGE difference, but — here again — the media spin it to make him look as bad as possible, casting their votes early for the candidate of their choosing, and giving in-kind donations to his campaign.

In no sense is this mendacious, mis-representative “journalism” what The Framers intended to protect with Constitutional language regarding “a free press.”

Yes, I definitely don’t find it funny that the govts idea of “fighting terrorism” is to force us honest citizens to arrive 2 hours before our flights, and treat us like cattle when we get there

The two statements aren’t mutually exclusive

However, A. “Bush could not keep us safe from 911” is a statement of opinion

but B “Bush did not keep us safe from 911” is a statement of fact. Maybe he did not because he could not, but what is certain is that he did not.

FLASHBACK: Jeb Bush Admitted ‘Leaky’ Immigration Led to 9/11 - Breitbart http://bit.ly/1ZPfIwE via @BreitbartNews

However, a review Jeb Bush’s 2013 book Immigration Wars reveals that Jeb Bush himself agreed with Trump’s argument and admitted that our “leaky” immigration policy was responsible for the attack.

Bush wrote:

In addition to the Mexican drug cartels, the fact that several of the 9/11 terrorists entered the country lawfully under a leaky immigration has heightened national security concerns—so much so that immigration enforcement has been placed under the Department of Homeland Security.

Indeed, all of the the nineteen September 11th hijackers were voluntarily imported into the country on visas issued to them by our federal government. Almost all of the visas were issued in the predominantly Muslim country of Saudi Arabia. Four of the September 11th hijackers—Zacarias Moussaoui, Satam al Suqami, Nawaf al Hamzi, and Hani Hanjour—were visa overstays.

In a blockbuster 2002 report, National Review’s Joel Mowbray acquired the visa applications of 15 of the 19 hijackers and exposed how every single one of their applications should have been flatly rejected.

“Bush did not keep us safe from 911” is a statement of fact."

An equivalent fact is that, "Clinton did not keep us safe from 9/11", and just as true is the fact that, "Trump did not keep us safe from 9/11". Heck, it's also a statement of fact that YOU didn't keep us safe from 9/11.

Playing with words wont change the real fact that, Bush could not protect the country from an act that he wasn't aware was being planned to get executed on 9/11, where all of the planning and funding and rehearsing and training and the selection of people to do the dirty deed and the selection of planes and cities, had all been done under Clinton. Why not go with the 100% truth that, Clinton failed to keep the country safe, when he and his administration failed to stop the attacks which would occur after he had left office?

Will the Mrs O run for President or the daughters? Don’t put the O’s in the same category. They are in a category above and beyond.

Mr is the worst of them all and has done 500% more damage to every aspect of American life but he is the most communist. Whoever put him into politics must be stopped from doing it again. There are junior communists running in state or local elections preparing for the future. THEY must be stopped. They are his family.

That pic was taken way back in the 90s and has no bearing in today’s events.

The phone call does. So does his failure to place 911 at Clinton's feet.

Trump's closet-amnesty Operation Touchback redux "immigration plan" might have worked to stop 911, but only if it had been implemented by at least early 1998, at the latest. Given the BS Democrats gave Bush over the recount, appointments, and trashing the White House in 2001, he had three months, at most, to have interdicted a 911 plan that was in the works before he was elected. Expecting GWB to have got his people in place to purge the country of visa overstays that fast is just not rational, even if he wanted to (which he obviously did not). So no, 911 was Clinton's fault, and for Trump to foist this blather on GWB just to get at his brother, and especially without even mentioning the complicity of his buddy Billy-Jeff, is total BS.

You’re right. Like Bush, neither you nor I kept America safe from 911.

Of course, unlike Bush, neither you nor I was president when 911 went down

Finally, the crack pro-Bush dynasty team has arrived!

Actually fagnet, that's just another one of your absurd rants. You see, and I'm sure this is way over your head, but I'll splain it to you anyway. I fully understand the damage done to the GOP and the country and the conservative movement by the Bushes. I was so far ahead of you in being anti Bush it's just pathetic.

However, and here is where it gets tricky for the lower IQ crowd like yourself....slamming Bush with LIBERAL TALKING POINTS like Trump did only FEED THE BEAST - the beast of the lower info voters lumping all Republicans in with Bush. Your favorite John McCain ran against Bush, and got his ass wiped. Your other favorite, Mittens, did the same and got his app wiped.

So again, slowly from the top, for your tiny brain.....I fight the Bush dynasty, as in my Amazon best seller book in my signature line...FROM THE RIGHT. In your ignorance, you think it's okay to fight them with LEFTY TALKING POINTS.

Did Bush keep us safe from the 2008 depression?

Wow, a question right out of MSNBC or the DU......are you on the wrong site? The answer to your question is no, but of course, you asked a stupid question. The question for grown ups is WHAT CAUSED the depression? WHY did it happen? And was BUSH RESPONSIBLE?

Being a big fan of MSNBC, I doubt you can answer any of those. If you do, I'll be kind enough to correct your mistakes for you. HINT: Bush was neither the cause, nor sadly, the solution, to these problems.....

Of course, unlike Bush, neither you nor I was president when 911 went down

Okay, so, who was president when the funding and planning and rehearsing and selection of airports people to conduct the attacks was happening. Would Trump, or you or I, have been responsible for all of that? Would Trump have taken responsibility for the attacks while he was president, even if he was in the dark about what was to occur and when?

Should Bush be held responsible for the CRA, which was instrumental in bringing down the housing market, which brought down the economy in 2007-2008? He was president, but, could he have done more than he tried to do? It happened on his watch. Would Trump have blamed himself for the CRA and Clinton's decision to force banks to grant mortgages to unqualified people?

Do prior decisions have anything to do with when their total effects will be felt? Or, do events just happen suddenly with no prior cause? Cause and effect. Does the effect not have a relationship with the cause?

The 9/11 hijackers came here on student or tourist visas. I’ve read through Trump’s immigration plan, and see no restrictions on either. So, how, exactly, would Trump’s policies have stopped 9/11? (Not that Trump ever backs up his “bold statements”, but I figured I’d ask).

There were multiple instances of visa fraud / violations:
