Six years? For a judgment call? And they're the parents? It's not as if they were target shooting above the crib. I wouldn't handle it the way they did, by any means. It's awful and crazy. But hard cases make bad law, or in this case, state ownership of your kids, their care, and your religion, under threat of lethal force and imprisonment.
Negligence and indifference are descriptions of intent—just less than a specific intent to harm. Redneck ignorance displayed over a couple of high-stress hours don't add up to either one. Target shooting would. A lot of rapists don't serve that much time.
Right, so the lawyers and courts are wrong on this case and you’re right. Who’s the pompous ass?
You and I see the state, this life, eternity and their relationships within one another differently.
This life is a mist. Eternal consequences are far more important.
But opinions vary.
That would be you. You didn't address the question and just cleared your throat a lot. But let it go. There are arguments that could be made either way. We disagree about the legal implications of jailing parents under those circumstances.
