Fox News Poll: Carson giving Trump a run for his money in GOP race
Fox News Politics ^ | October 13, 2015 | Dana Blanton

Ben Carson is giving Donald Trump a run for his money, according to the latest Fox News national poll.

Support for Carson in the race for the Republican nomination has nearly doubled in the last two months, he is seen by voters as being more ethical than others, and he has the largest number of GOP primary voters who say they would definitely vote for him.

That makes him well-positioned to overtake Trump.

In addition, the poll tested an array of general election match-ups and Carson is the only Republican to get 50 percent support.  In a Carson vs. Hillary Clinton contest, he has the advantage by a 50-39 percent margin.

Running down the GOP race:  Trump remains in the top spot with 24 percent, closely followed by Carson at 23 percent.  Ted Cruz is third with 10 percent.  Those are the only three who receive double-digit backing from Republican primary voters.

Next, it’s Marco Rubio (9 percent), Jeb Bush (8 percent), Carly Fiorina and Mike Huckabee (5 percent each), and Rand Paul (3 percent). The remaining candidates garner one percent or less.

Carson has climbed 11 points since mid-August when he registered at 12 percent, while support for Trump has mostly held steady.

Support for fellow outsider Fiorina is only about half what it was after the September debate, in which she was widely hailed the winner.

Voters are also asked to name their second-choice candidate.  When first and second-choice preferences are considered together, Carson (41 percent) actually has the edge over Trump (37 percent).

Carson spends his donor money like it’s going out of style. Let’s see how much of the $20 million he raised in 3Q is still left in the bank. We’ll know in 2 days.

The only positive with this push poll is that Carson is such an unserious candidate that most people can’t imagine themselves voting for him.

Ben Carson is this cycle’s Herman Cain, He may be number 2 in the polls now, heck he may even be number 1 eventually, but sooner or later his support is going to drop off a cliff.

Carson is spending nearly all of his donor money on fundraising expenses and expensive consultants.

He won’t have anything left for advertising and GOTV with his current cash burn rate.

If you look at the internals, this poll appears to be heavily skewed with evangelical respondents. Huckabee up from 2% to 5%...Really??

Note that just like the CBS poll released yesterday, Cruz finished 3rd.

Note also that the Trump vs Clinton, Carson vs Clinton etc. polling also included Bush, Fiorina and Rubio but not Cruz. The CBS poll did the same.

Normally I don’t do Conspiracy. But right now I smell a rat. Two of them.

Probably on purpose. Another blog I saw noted that a lot of these other polls that tend to have a stronger than average Carson skew heavy elderly and evangelical— which is where Carson gets his strength, as he doesn’t have much broad support elsewhere.

Obviously, someone figured out that’s how they can bring Trump down (in the polls). Just skew the one group he isn’t absolutely dominating.

Carson’s superpacs are also spending nearly all of their money on fundraising expenses and expensive consultant salaries.

His Superpacs won’t have any money left over for advertising and GOTV either.

I appreciate Carson not backing down on political correctness.

However, he comes up woefully short on immigration. And where is he on gun rights? Also don’t like his support to reeact the Voting Rights Act.

Nice guy but not ready for prime time.

If you listen to the talking heads on this site, they’re saying, “Well, Turmp’s numbers are declining, that’s been happening and we’ve been following it.”

They haven’t been tracking it, they’ve been fabricating it.

It’s all about stopping Trump.
They don’t really want Carson, but they really, really don’t want Trump.

Ben Carson is giving Donald Trump a run for his money...

Didn’t realize Trump was spending money yet, they just keep putting him on TV for free!
