President ‘Mumbo-Jumbo’

President ‘Mumbo-Jumbo’

Obama’s preferred method for dealing with disagreement is denigration.

Bret Stephens

David Petraeus testified last month to the Senate Armed Services Committee on U.S. policy in the Middle East. Regarding Syria, the former general and CIA director urged a credible threat to destroy Bashar Assad’s air force if it continues to bomb its own people. He also recommended “the establishment of enclaves in Syria protected by coalition air power, where a moderate Sunni force could be supported and where additional forces could be trained, internally displaced persons could find refuge, and the Syrian opposition could organize.”

But Barack Obama does not agree. At his Friday press conference, the president described such views as “mumbo-jumbo,” “half-baked ideas,” “as-if” solutions, a willful effort to “downplay the challenges involved in the situation.” He says the critics have no answers to the questions of “what exactly would you do and how would you fund it and how would you sustain it.”

America’s greatest living general might as well have been testifying to his shower drain for all the difference his views are going to make in this administration.

So it is with this president. It’s not enough for him to stake and defend his positions. He wants you to know that he thinks deeper, sees further, knows better, operates from a purer motive. His preferred method for dealing with disagreement is denigration. If Republicans want a tougher line in Syria, they’re warmongers. If Hillary Clinton thinks a no-fly zone is a good idea, she’s playing politics: “There is obviously a difference,” the president tut-tutted about his former secretary of state’s position, “between running for president and being president.”

You can interpret that jab as a sign Mr. Obama is urging Joe Biden to run. It’s also a reminder that Mr. Obama...

Bret Stephens really really wants a US war in Syria. And he really really wants Assad ousted.

Starting with Vietnam, somebody decided that the way to win wars is to let politicians run them. The Rules of Engagement hamstring our troops just so some political hack can stand up and say we’re doing our best to avoid “collateral damage”. Had Truman taken that attitude relative to the deployment of the A-bomb, we’d still be fighting door-to-door in Tokyo. If you’re going to fight someone, the Rules of Engagement become there-are-no-rules...go in and take the bad guys out. The pity-pat this clown follows is costing US lives. He’s a disgrace to the office.

Stephens supposes there is some “moderate” group in Syria to support.

Usually I like Stephens, but that is really ignorant of him.

I thought Mumbo-Jumbo was Bryant Gumbel’s brother.

Mumbo Jumbo Gumbel. Works at CBS, I think.

What is our national interest in ousting Assad?

Given the situation, its a 110% guaranteed that a Syria without Assad will definitely be an ISIS stronghold...so what is the downside (to us) if Assad stays?

“Winston Churchill once said that the U.S. could not be “the leading community in the civilized world without being involved in its problems, without being convulsed by its agonies and inspired by its causes.” Mr. Obama sees it differently. He is the president who would prefer not to. He is the Bartleby of 21st century geopolitics.”

Our President, Obama, stated only about 7 months ago that ISIS was “the Junior Varsity” and was no threat.

He is wrong about every thing he says & does.

We have American forces in Jordan.

We have Americans in Syria supporting the anti-government forces.

What is our Grand Strategy?

What are our objectives with Syria? And killing Assad isn’t a Grand Strategy.

Flying some airplanes and dropping a few bombs isn’t a Grand Strategy. It doesn’t even support a strategy.

Obama has had seven years to learn how to be President. He has made no effort to learn how to improve his job performance. He is arrogant and petty, as are his supporters.

Bret, you’re a goofball.

“Moderate Sunni force?”

Go back to school and find some career that you are not dismally incompetent at.

Right - that’s why no one ever heard of him until the DNC ‘bought’ him...and that’s why, after going on 8 years in the WH... we have such a f&^%ing mess at home and abroad.

Yea...he’s a REAL deep thinker!

The ostensible goal of Bret is to have sex with as many illegal immigrants as possible, and then start WW3. He and Obama should start the music together.
