Sanders: Many whites 'not sensitive' to the abuse black people face

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Monday said white Americans are often blind to the injustices that black people face when dealing with police.

“Many white people are not sensitive to the kind of abuse that African Americans, especially younger African Americans, receive at the hands of police officers and police departments,” Sanders said, according to Ebony.

“I think for most whites their experience with the police has been good or neutral because they don’t interact with the police as much as those in the black community,” he said.

“One of the ongoing crises in America is institutional racism,” the 2016 Democratic presidential candidate added. "We have a very broken criminal justice system. Clearly these are issues that must be dealt with and changed.”

Sanders argued that law enforcement officials need to improve their outreach when engaging minority populations.

“We need to demilitarize local police departments so that they do not look like occupying armies,” he said.

“We want police departments that look like the communities they are serving,” Sanders continued. "If the community is a minority one, the police department should reflect that reality.”

Sanders has surged to second in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, and now leads Hillary Clinton in polls of New Hampshire, an early-voting state.

But while Sanders has seen an upswing in support, there are lingering doubts about whether he can expand his appeal beyond white liberals to other voting blocs within the Democratic Party, including African-Americans.

Sanders told Ebony he recognizes the challenges he faces.

“Yes, it’s true — I’m from a state that is overwhelmingly white,” he said.

“I am also aware that I am running against someone whose husband is very popular in the African American community,” Sanders added, referring to former President Bill Clinton.

“The proposals that I talk about are actually more relevant to the black community,” he said, citing his calls for criminal justice reform and better youth education.

Black Lives Matter activists have repeatedly targeted Sanders this year, disrupting several of his stops along the 2016 campaign trail. Sanders has since met privately with the activists to discuss his agenda.

“We met on several occasions and those meetings have all been very productive,” he said. “I have found those meetings to be very useful.”

The sense of "entitlement" by totally (literally) ignorant subcultures who are allowed to vote has done more damage than any real or imagined 'abuse' that can be manufactured and constantly churned.

This 'victim status' straw man has outlived any credibility it may have ever had.

That is in addition to the colossal real physical damage that thug culture inflicts on itself and the surrounding culture through murder, arson and miscellaneous mayhem, to themselves and to the normal citizens around them.

Haha, funny! Maybe you could tell us about how blacks are discriminated against! I find (in the news) that most arrested are for drug selling and abuse. Is that fair?

Are you saying that drug criminals are to be arrested only if they are white?

I think that you know that in high crime areas that if most of the perpetrators are black that they should be stopped and if guilty arrested, well maybe not you. You seem to think that in Baltimore they should not be stopped.

I will say that if most are white in any State that they should be stopped and arrested. Maybe the difference is in the race of the offender.

This crap about blacks being stopped abnormally is all about crime in a specific area, not about an overall average. That is not something you will see or hear on the MSM anyway.

My first reaction to this is, "That's racist!" What kind of dog whistle is Bernie blowing here, saying that black people have more run-ins with the police than white people do?

My second reaction is, it's not a dog whistle, it's the sad reality. If there were a lot less law-breaking in the black community, there would be a lot less need for law enforcement.

Getting back on the overall subject, the SJW types would have us believe that higher rates of police interaction, arrests, convictions, jail and prison time, and the like are entirely a result of institutional white racism. This argument falls apart immediately if you look at murder rates alone. When blacks commit murders at a rate that approaches 10X the rate for whites, you’re going to get more police attention. If there is more criminal behavior in this area, where it is hard to ignore given it tends to leave a body behind, why should we be surprised there are higher rates of criminal behavior for lesser crimes in the black culture/community?

This is the elephant in the room that the SJWs don’t want to talk about. They want to point to disparate black/white statistics and act as if it is all a matter of anti-black racism, when the fact of the matter is that there is a significant cultural problem of criminal behavior at hand. You don’t see many white musicians pushing a thug lifestyle, and those that do exist don’t have the popularity in the white community overall that their black counterparts do in the black community. I bring this up as an example of the cultural problems that must be addressed if blacks want to get their crime stats down to the same level as whites.

In short, address the criminal behavior, then we can talk.

For those who have had no interaction, there is no problem.

For those who have, the story might be different.

When one walks into a situation where the tactical deployment of officers is readily evident, it is uncomfortable to say the least. The outcome, however, depends on keeping a clear head, making no sudden or threatening moves, and calmly knowing your rights.

Being innocent of any wrongdoing does not hurt, either.

Entering a situation with a chip on your shoulder and an attitude, when the police are already at high alert and stressed (read: adrenaline charged) just might not be a good idea.
