Bloodbath: ‘Los Angeles Times’ To Cut 10% of Staff
Breitbart.com ^ | 5 Oct 2015 | John Nolte

Posted on 10/05/2015 12:18:35 PM PDT by Rockitz

While it may be impossible to believe that an upstanding newspaper like The Los Angeles Times, a trusted and beloved publication that describes half-black men as “white supremacists,” is having financial troubles, the fact is that a bloodbath involving at least 10% of newsroom staffers is underway.

The Los Angeles Times staff will be reduced from 500 to around 450, and buyouts are being offered, but not really. There’s some severance and an additional amount that equals a week’s pay for every year of employment. This sounds like less of a buyout than a small incentive to avoid being laid off, which is what will happen if not enough people accept the so-called buyout.

The LA Times is owned by Tribune Publishing, which will be laying off 80 total employees.

Bottom line: The LA Times is doomed. Imagine a left-wing publication that is so poorly edited, so untrustworthy, and so useless, it can’t even survive in one of the most left-wing cities in America. Things are so bad, the paper’s last publisher didn’t even last a year.

There is a solution to save those workers. Raise prices. Because that always works in the delusional minds of leftists.

Y’all ever read the Washington Times?

When I lived in the DC area (1995-1004), it was the best newspaper in America, IMHO.

Haven’t read it lately, but every now and again, I read a WT article or an editorial.

Is the NY Post still conservative?

I agree with you and left them decades ago.

Truth is, I like something I can pick up and read. The Los Angeles Times isn’t worth reading. It’s insulting to contemplate MOST of the time.

It has insulted the intelligence of it’s readers for fifty years. It’s lucky to still be in existence at all.

If it did a good job of addressing important issues, our state and nation would be better off. Our local communities would be too.

Sadly, it was intent on spinning for communism and anything anti-American for as long as I can remember. At one point it was so enamored with the reconquista, that it bought La Opinion so no matter what happened, it would still have a stake in the game.

The size of the paper has been cut back. It’s anemic looking as can be. It looks more like a glorified college paper than a massive metropolitan based paper of record.

It’s news delivery contains as much or more commentary as actual hard news.

I got tired of being lied to, misled, propagandized, and insulted by the owners and decision makers.

It’s editorial cartoonists and writers trashed Reagan at length, using extreme sacrilegious tactics to accomplish it. They skewered Nixon the day of his funeral.

Never mind Bill Clinton, now there was a guy that never got anywhere near as bad as Nixon! (Nixon should have gotten the death penalty in their eyes, >IMO)

Well, good bye Los Angeles Times. Wish I could say it was nice knowing you. No, it’s just nice knowing that soon I’ll be able to trash you when you’re laid to rest.

Reagan and Nixon both deserve as much.

Newspapers need to realize that they are selling a product that people will buy rather than selling ideas that people should think. Long ago they had a near monopoly on the news now they need to compete but they have lost the ability to compete in the public market place—This is the curse of Liberalism. Some editors have said the newspapers should be supported by the Government (like Pravda in the old Soviet state). This only shows that they have been corrupted. What do newspapers need to do in our modern world? This is my take:
1. Need to “Make News” with investigative reporting—Muckraking and seeking to address the problems we face in the world.
2. Need Celebritie Reporters and Collumes authors—Colorful men and women who can write to amuse and interest the reader—Like Walter Winchell and Hedda Hopper. Do not put their reports on line—Only way to read what they say is to buy the paper.
3. Need to have more on TV—Broadcast, Cable, YouTube, Computer. Where to go for new things.
4. New Cartoons—Peanuts is so dated—Need more episodic Cartoons—like Flash Gordon. Prince Valant. Maybe a cartoon on the US Constitution and American History.
5. Even handed editorials—Not all left and right. Maybe a Point-counter point feature—To argue points. Even include the Far Right and Far left—The Red Communist side—The John Birtch Society—Etc...The Black Power Page and the White Power Page.
6. More maps and charts—show what happening in Syria—where the bombs fell.
7. More foods and now to make simple dinners—

No.

I live on the West Coast in L.A.

Here, headquartered in L.A., we have the best newspaper in the entire country IMHO-—Investor’s Business Daily.

The Los Angeles Times may survive in a reduced form. But a LOT of newspaper industry watchers are asking if the New York Daily News will even make it to Thanksgiving 2015 given the massive layoffs and fast-falling readership of that paper--and unlike the New York Times with its much higher "cachet" and a major sugar daddy in Carlos Slim Helu to financially support it, the Daily News may soon be shut down.

Not anymore but I always click through to the WashTimes link when something is posted here.

I liked the NY Post better when I was in Boston. Used to love reading the columnists ripping apart the Giants and the Jets and the Yankees, etc. Now that I'm in New York I hardly look at it but do go to the website once in a while. Not a fan of their website layout. Way too clunky and focused on celebrities. They need to overhaul it.

Maybe now one of the soon-to-be-out-of-work employees can be monetarily induced to release a copy of the suppressed tape of obama speechifying at a dinner in honor of Rashid Khalidi

I’m sure the folks at the Slimes will make certain the tape is destroyed before the Slimes finally closes its doors.

Well first they publish in English don’t they realize that the city is non Hispanic speaking and low educated landscapers who can’t read English. Should publish in Spanish and only Mexican news. The paper will fly off the shelves.

And that may not work, either. We forget many of the illegals coming in from Mexico come from the areas south of Mexico City, areas where indigenous peoples (like the descendants of the Aztecs) who are not even very literate in Spanish. As such, even a Spanish-language newspaper would be of no use.

...they can’t read spanish either, nor will they pay for a newspaper. A local spanish grocery tried two coin-op spanish paper boxes. They were gone after three months due to lack of interest.

I rely on FRee Republic, Drudge and my email buddies to lead me to the informative and interesting news stories.

Quit watching the TV news the moment I found out Ophonybama got re-elected, and have not watched a news program, local or national, since, except for bits and pieces.

I cannot tell you how much my life has improved since then, and I don’t have to keep buying new TVs when old TVs suffer a fatal 12 gauge encounter!

I agree, IBD is a good paper.

My kids live in Kali-Fornia — I am trying, with no success at all, to get them to voluntarily leave. So far, no joy.

How’s by you — are you in for the long haul in Kali-Fornia?

It would be fun for James O’Keefe to go into the Slimes and get an audience with management with a business proposition to buy their printing presses for salvage value just to get their reaction. ;o)

A boy can dream....

The People’s Republic is getting progressively worse with each passing day. I have a job and a house with a mortgage. My wife’s family is all here, and I would not want to separate her from her parents. So...we’re stuck for the time being. Pray for us. The rest of the country isn’t far behind CA in its embrace of Marxism. BHO carried many more states in addition to our state.

They will still run stories about how the economy keeps improving....even as their fellow employees are shown the doors.
