Middle East would be more stable if Saddam, Gaddafi still in power: Trump

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said on Sunday the Middle East would be more stable if Muammar Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein were still in power in Libya and Iraq, saying it's "not even a contest".

Trump mentioned the countries in comparison to current efforts to drive Syrian President Bashar al-Assad out of power.

"You can make the case, if you look at Libya, look at what we did there, it's a mess," Trump said on NBC.

"If you look at Saddam Hussein with Iraq, look what we did there, it's a mess. It's going to be the same thing" in Syria, he said.

Asked by NBC's Chuck Todd if the Middle East would be more stable with Gaddafi and Saddam in power, Trump replied, "Of course it would be."

In hindsight and knowing what Obama has done he is absolutely right. From today’s stand point we would have been better off leaving things alone.

He forgot to mention Carter giving Iran to the muslim monsters, sowing the seeds for the world’s distruction.

"Once you got to Iraq and took it over and took down Saddam Hussein's government, then what are you going to put in its place? That's a very volatile part of the world. And if you take down the central government in Iraq, you could easily end up seeing pieces of Iraq fly off. Part of it the Syrians would like to have, the west. Part of eastern Iraq the Iranians would like to claim. Fought over for eight years. In the north, you've got the Kurds. And if the Kurds spin loose and join with Kurds in Turkey, then you threaten the territorial integrity of Turkey. It's a quagmire if you go that far and try to take over Iraq." --- Dick Cheney, former U.S. Secretary of Defense, 4/15/94

"I really do believe that we will be greeted as liberators. I’ve talked with a lot of Iraqis in the last several months myself, had them to the White House ... The read we get on the people of Iraq is there is no question but what they want to get rid of Saddam Hussein and they will welcome as liberators the United States when we come to do that." --- Dick Cheney, Vice President of the United States, 3/16/03

Nothing else needs to be said. Americans will forever rue the day they let a two-faced @sshole like this within 100 miles of Washington, D.C. Amier

If Saddam’s son Quesay had taken over, we would be attacked; second, many suffered in his rape rooms and there was endless suffering at the hands of Uday as well. That regime was tough, kept people in line, but ended up being horrific.

Par for the course in the Arab World. Why we need energy independence, to get ourselves out of that god-forsaken region of the world.

In retrospect Trump nailed it, we deposed the Shah (under Carter) Hussein (under Bush) Kadafi and Mubarek (under Obama) these guys were all b@$stards, but say what you will they kept a lid on their wackos.

The Arab world is full of b@stards, it’s who they are, and we will never change that fact.

But what we did was right in principle but we walked away from a job unfinished. Thanks to Obama. And he owns it.

You could say same about Vietnam war. Yet, we learned for a while, then forgot.

one of the early crazies there called himself the prophet or Mohamed of throat slitting. I forgot his name but he screamed at Mecca: “I have brought you the throat sliting”. After that he organized an attack on the owners of Mecca back then, and it is how Morocco was founded, because these arabs had to flee as far as they could and were stopped at the Atlantic.

in a way liberals have brought us a messiah of baby part dealing. It is kind of our Morocco, we cannot flee and plea further.

"That regime was tough, kept people in line, but ended up being horrific"

Genuinely evil.

But not a problem for the USA to solve.

The House of Saud is very evil. And evil is reflected in their deeds.

Muslims are the scum of the earth.

He is absolutely right.
We should have supported Daffy, Mubrak and Assad. Since Saddam was already gone, we should have replaced him with a ‘bastard’ loyal to us. We should have installed a ‘bastard’ to rule Trashcanistan for us, too.

That's the truth, right there.

Should have saved any follow-on operaions for taking out Iran and putting the Shah's son in charge.

With whatever logistical support he required.

Of course Trump is correct.

Even the commenters at source agree with Trump overwhelmingly.

And as to Iraq, what gives?

The 9/11 attack was manned by Saudi terrorists and finance by the Saudi royal family. So what does Bush do, he attacks Iraq.

Of course you’re right. al-Maliki was a sheit trying to run a sunni country.

But here we got into a discussion started by Trump as to how we, mainly Obama screwed up the Middle East and how he’d fix it but the FReepers devolve into a squabble over whether Dubya did anything wrong, etc. I’d like us to polish off Obama before we splinter into factions.

What we can't wrap our heads around it that in this part of the world that seems to have a propensity to devolve to Islamic rule and potentially towards full blow Shariah Law, the best we can do at times is a Strong Armed Nationalist Leader and or Dictator in all but name and that a Democracy like, the US, and or our Allies as in England and Canada for example, is not something that seems to happen organically after we get rid of the "bad" guys.

Sadly that is the reality of it, grandiose visions of anything else has shown us in the last 40 years to be folly ...

This is the radical common sense that sustains Trump and fuels a movement. Iraq could have been contained and anyways what’s difference? Now Iran is going to get nukes and they’re just as likely to give terrorists nukes as Saddam. It’s sad that anyone lost their lives or limbs to s senseless war. Get out of the MIddle East and put up a wall on the Mexican border. Use the military to patrol offshore and keep and eyes on the world using technology. Protect North America from within and without.

The middle east would be more stable if Obama was out of power. The legacy of Obama will be “If you are black, or appear black, you will not be impeached no matter what you do”

Thing is, Uday was a deranged sex addicted psychopath, but the younger son who was being groomed to take over was a cool, collected, disciplined sociopath who was more of a bureaucrat, but that made him all the more terrifying. Quesay would have attacked us and likely taken the regime to new heights of cruelty.
