Another day, another horrible mass shooting. This one was in the small town of Roseburg, Oregon, on the Umpqua Community College campus. More than two dozen people were reportedly hit with gunfire.
While victims are being rushed to the hospital, many right-wing pundits and politicians are no doubt readying their talking points to explain why the 264th mass shooting of the year does not mean the United States should tighten up access to deadly firearms.

Examples include at least 2 school shootings that were "nipped in the bud," and never became mass shootings.

I would tend to believe that more persons are killed and hurt by automobiles than by guns excluding war. I also tend to think that more people are killed in various other kinds of accidents than by guns. What it all boils down to as a societal matter is a persons choice of being killed or injured. Hollywood and it’s movies/productions in pursuit of money contribute more to violence than any other societal phenomena including privately owned guns.

I followed the link to another Rolling Stone article without a link.
However, the last time I checked an incredible claimed number of "mass shootings" out, and followed the links, it was the number of shootings that involved more than 1 individual, and they were not necessarily fatal. In about 75% or 80% of cases, the shooter was listed as "unknown". I'll go waaaaaaay out on a limb and suggest that this means that the vast majority of the so-called mass shootings were drive-by shootings in places like Obama's beloved Chicago, they involve "business", and that all witnesses "didin' hear nuttin', n' didn' see nuttin'" and that's why the shooter is unknown.
This is the sort of crap that gets published when editors tell the researchers the results that they want before the story is researched. The real reason that shootings like the one in Oregon get so much attention is that they are rare.
