Two officials familiar with the contents of the note say 26-year-old Christopher Harper Mercer, who was killed in a firefight Thursday with police at Umpqua Community College, wrote that he would be "welcomed in Hell and embraced by the devil."

Yes, J.J. Vicari was not in the room with the murderer and victims. He was in another room. Only the account relayed by a granddaughter of one of the victims is mentioned there. But there was also a direct witness (a second witness) who said that Harper-Mercer asked the victims about their religion (other reports).
